Porsche Malaysia and Motorsports Association of Malaysia put students behind the virtual wheel for road safety lessons

Recognising the importance of early road safety education, Porsche Malaysia through its local distributor Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) has joined hands with the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) to conduct a nationwide Road Safety Awareness campaign in schools.

This initiative, dubbed “Students Today. Drivers Tomorrow”, aims to equip over 1,600 participants aged 7 to 17 with crucial road safety knowledge through interactive workshops.

Commenting on the programme, SDAP Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Hunter said, “Motorsports is deeply embedded in our DNA, but beyond performance and passion, road safety remains a fundamental aspect of driving. We’re proud to be partnering with the Motorsports Association of Malaysia to educate the drivers of tomorrow on the importance of road safety.”

“It is crucial that we create awareness among students – our drivers of tomorrow – by equipping them with essential road safety knowledge and responsible driving habits from an early age. More importantly, by taking this knowledge home, they can influence their families to adopt safer driving practices, fostering a more responsible driving culture and contributing to safer roads across Malaysia,” he continued.

Road safety remains a pressing issue here in Malaysia. Most recently, the Op Selamat police operation conducted over the Hari Raya holidays recorded 2,040 road accidents and seven deaths on the first day alone. Over 8,800 summons were issued, a 16% increase compared to previous years, according to FMT.

By introducing road safety and responsible driving education in schools from a young age, Porsche Malaysia and MAM hopes to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to shape the future of road safety in Malaysia.

President of the Motorsports Association of Malaysia, Tan Sri Mokhzani Tun Mahathir added, “We are excited to partner with Porsche Malaysia on this vital road safety initiative. Education is fundamental to developing responsible drivers. By engaging students at a young age, we can foster lifelong safe driving habits, making our roads safer for everyone.”

As part of this partnership, Porsche Malaysia and MAM will conduct nationwide roadshows, visiting selected schools to educate students about road safety and responsible driving.

The roadshow will feature engaging road safety talks led by motorsports instructors, interactive quizzes to test students’ understanding, and the opportunity to experience driving simulations.

By providing a virtual driving experience, the simulators allow students to put their knowledge into practice. This hands-on method reinforces the importance of road safety and helps students develop safer driving behaviours.
