GAC Aion Hyptec HT is coming to Malaysia, brand teases in Facebook post

Something “game-changing” is coming soon to Malaysia… well, at least according to Aion Malaysia in a Facebook post yesterday. Based on the poster they’ve published, the Hyptec HT could soon be arriving in Malaysia – one year after it was first previewed in the country at the 2024 Malaysia Autoshow.

The poster also shows off some of the GAC Aion Hyptec HT’s core selling points such as the 600 km EV range, a 22-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system, and “first class seat” that also includes a foldable table.

Other than that, details of what the Malaysian-spec Aion Hyptec HT will be like is still unknown. Although, the highlights in the brochure does roughly line up with the model’s specifications in Indonesia where the model is already on sale, which could give us some pointers.

In Indonesia, the GAC Aion Hyptec HT comes in two variants: Premium priced at IDR691,000,000 (approx. RM184k), and the “Ultra Gull-wing Doors” variant going for IDR843,500,000 (approx. RM225k). For the most part, both variants share the same specs and standard equipment, with the range-topper getting a few neat tidbits to make it stand out from the base variant – the most obvious one being the gull-wing doors in its name.

Powering both Aion Hyptec HT variants in Indonesia is a single electric motor on the rear axle, rated at a max output of 340 hp (250 kW) and 430 Nm of torque. Also shared between the two variants is an 83 kWh Magazine Battery lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which is rated at 600 km of NEDC-rated range.

Aside from the gull-wing doors, the more expensive Ultra variant also utilises a fixed calliper on its brake rotors.

The inside of both variants see many – if not all – of the same standard features as each other. At the front seats, an 8.8-inch digital cluster and 14.6-inch centre infotainment screen is present on the dashboard, and all around the interior is a Dolby Atmos 22-speaker system. The Ultra variant also adds a music-reactive animation feature to the ambient lighting system.

Safety features such as automatic emergency braking (AEB), forward collision warning (FCW), land departure warning (LDW) and lane departure prevention (LDP), blind spot monitoring (BSM) are standard across both variants.

Here in Malaysia, the GAC Aion brand currently has two models for sale: The Aion ES sedan holding the sticker price of RM106,800 for only one available variant, and Aion Y Plus at RM119,800 for the Elite variant and RM135,800 for the range-topping Premium variant.
