GAC Aion V launched in Indonesia as CKD model, priced from approx. RM122k

Aion Indonesia has unveiled the Aion V at the Indonesia International Motor Show 2025, with two variants set to go on sale in the Archipelago this year. Announced by Aion Indonesia Chief Executive Officer Andry Ciu, the Aion V Exclusive will be priced at IDR449 million (approx. RM122k) and the Aion V Luxury will be priced at IDR489 million (approx RM133k).

The Aion V will be locally assembled in Indonesia, at GAC’s new manufacturing facility in Cikampek, Karawang Regency, West Java. The facility has a production capacity of 50,000 units annually, with assembly of the Aion V to begin in March 2025, followed by customer deliveries soon after.

The Aion V is a C-segment EV SUV by GAC Motor’s EV arm. Billed as the marque’s “first global strategic model”, the Aion V sports a “tough-looking, powerful” exterior aesthetic paired to a “refined interior style”, and is set to compete against the likes of the BYD Atto 3, Neta X, and Proton eMAS 7’s chinese cousin, the Geely EX5, in Indonesia.

Both the Exclusive and Luxury variants of the Aion V are powered by a single motor on the front axle, but the motor’s output differ between them. The Exclusive variant has a total output of 184 hp (135 kW), while the Luxury variant has 204 hp (150 kW) and 240 Nm of torque.

However, due to the difference in battery sizes (64.5 kWh on Exclusive, 75.3 kWh on Luxury), both boast an identical 0-100 km/h sprint time of 7.9 seconds. GAC Indonesia quotes an EV range of 505 km for the Exclusive variant, and 602 km on the Luxury, both based on the NEDC test cycle. The batteries are based on the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry.

DC charging is supported at up to 180 kW, taking approximately 16 minutes to go from 30-80%. The company did not disclose AC charging information, but does mention that the Aion V will support vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities of up to 3.3 kW to power external electronic appliances.

The Aion V has a diverse colour palette of seven exterior colours, including two more with a white roof for a two-tone colour scheme. The Aion V comes in Sunset Orange, Galaxy Blue, Wilderness Sand, Sea Fluorescent Gray, Arctic White, Holographic Silver, Night Shadow Black. For the two-tone colours, Sunset Orange and Galaxy Blue are paired with a white roof.

These will be paired to three interior colour options on the inside, which are black-brown, black-beige, and plain black.

Standard features on the Indonesian Aion V include the Skyline Run-through taillights, 18-inch sport allow wheels, and Angel’s Wings headlamps on the exterior.

Moving inside, The Aion V sports a panoramic roof, ADIGO nine-speaker system, and a standard trunk volume of 427L, which can be expanded to 978L when the rear seats are folded down. It also has fridge found in the centre console that can cool and freeze drinks at -15 degrees celsius, or keep foods warm at 50 degrees celsius.

Concerning safety features, the Aion V is equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with stop and go, Traffic Jam Assist to adjust acceleration and braking at low speeds, Intelligent Cruise Assist to automatically reduce speeds during turns, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist, and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB).
