The all-new Aston Martin Vanquish Volante is the world’s fastest and most powerful front-engined convertible

For those who dream of an Aston Martin Vanquish with open-air thrills, your wish has been granted. Meet the all-new Aston Martin Vanquish Volante, which the Gaydon-based carmaker is touting as the world’s fastest and most powerful front-engine convertible.

How powerful? It boasts the same 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine producing 835 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, all delivered to the rear wheels through an eight-speed ZF gearbox. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 345 km/h.

While matching its coupe sibling in power and top speed, the Vanquish Volante is a smidge (0.2 seconds) slower in the century sprint, presumably due to the added weight of the roof mechanism.

Drivers need not worry about any compromise in drivability, as Aston Martin has optimised the Vanquish Volante’s underbody stiffening, resulting in structural performance closely matched to the Coupe.

There’s also a bespoke suspension tuned for the Volante’s unique weight distribution, and new Bilstein dampers that offer varied wheel control across different drive modes. To keep everything under control, the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante is also equipped with carbon ceramic brakes and specially designed Pirelli P Zero tyres.

Regarding the roof, the carmaker has named it the lightweight K-fold roof, which is a fabric soft top. According to the company, it opens in 14 seconds and closes in 16 seconds, and can be operated at speeds up to 50 km/h. Aston Martin expects owners will want to show off this feature, as it can be opened or closed remotely using the key fob within two metres of the car.

The rest of the Vanquish Volante remains largely similar to its coupe sibling except for its retractable roof. There’s the signature grand tourer body style, the signature vaned front grille and a long hood with F1-inspired louvres to aid cooling the monstrous V12 within.

Inside, the Vanquish Volante’s cabin closely resembles the coupe’s, with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display and a 10.25-inch TFT driver’s display. The centre console houses controls for various vehicle functions and a new button specifically for roof operation.

Aston Martin hasn’t spilled the beans on the Vanquish Volante’s price just yet, but to give you an idea, the coupe is going for GBP400,000 (approx. RM2.3 million) – so expect the Volante obviously to cost a bit more. But if you can afford it, best get your order in quick, because the company is only making 1,000 Vanquishes a year, and that includes the Volante.
