2025 BYD Atto 3 Ultra launched in Malaysia – same specs as outgoing Extended Range, but RM26k cheaper at RM124k

Is this the start of a fully electric vehicle (EV) price war in Malaysia? BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, has launched the BYD Atto 3 Ultra, priced at RM124,500 on-the-road, without insurance.

This new sole variant of the Atto 3 replaces the previous BYD Atto 3 Extended Range, launched last year at RM149,800. The Ultra undercuts its predecessor by RM26,000, bringing it into direct competition with the Proton eMAS 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7) Premium variant, which is priced similarly.

If you are expecting the new BYD Atto 3 Ultra to be the facelift model launched in China recently, featuring a new exterior and redesigned interior, you will be disappointed as the Atto 3 Ultra is still based on the pre-facelift Atto 3. This means it is almost the same as the Extended Range it replaces exterior wise, apart from the new design for the 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the BYD Atto 3 Ultra is where the changes are more apparent. First, it features a new all-black interior, with seats upholstered in black synthetic leather with yellow stitching. Ventilated front seats and a NFC digital key feature are also included, allowing owners to unlock their car using their smartphone or through the BYD smartphone app without internet connectivity.

The rest of the interior equipment is unchanged, with the rotatable 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto taking centre stage, and a five-inch digital gauge cluster for the driver.

No changes were made to the powertrain for the BYD Atto 3 Ultra. It retains a front electric motor making 204 hp (150 kW) and 310 Nm. Powering the motor is a 60.48 kWh BYD blade battery pack.

This setup provides a WLTP range of 420 km for the Atto 3 Ultra variant, which is the same as the Atto 3 Extended Range. Charging is supported with DC charging at 88 kW and AC charging at 7 kW.

In terms of safety systems, the Atto 3 Ultra is equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features. These include adaptive cruise control (ACC) with stop and go function, automated emergency braking (AEB), blind spot monitors (BSM), and rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA).

The BYD Atto 3 Ultra is priced from RM124,500. Included in the price is an eight-year free service package, a six-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year or 160,000 km high-voltage battery warranty, and an eight-year or 150,000 km drive unit warranty.

In conjunction with the launch, BYD Sime Motors is offering an exclusive early bird promotion for the first 1,000 customers called the ‘BYD Atto 3 Ultra Launch Package’. This launch package includes a RM5,000 cash rebate, a free 7 kW wall charger, a free vehicle-to-load (V2L) adapter, a free Type-2 cable, and free unlimited internet for two years.

Customers can also purchase the service plus package at RM12,888 for six years or RM20,688 for eight years, which offers extra benefits such as tyre rotation, alignment, and balancing, along with an annual 12V battery replacement.
