The Porsche Macan will be an EV-only model by 2026, after current ICE model phases out

Disappointing news for those awaiting a dinosaur juice-powered next-generation Porsche Macan: the company has confirmed the model will transition to an EV-exclusive line up globally by 2026, upon discontinuation of current internal combustion engine variants.

This decision, dispelling earlier rumours of a gasoline-powered next-generation Macan alongside the EV variant, was announced during Porsche’s annual financial results press conference, as reported by InsideEVs.

Currently, Porsche offers both the petrol and electric-powered Macan variants in select markets, including Malaysia. The all-new fully-electric Macan was launched locally last November, and is sold alongside the previous-generation Macan T, powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Based on the company’s new direction, it appears that the latter won’t be on sale for much longer. Once that’s discontinued, the all-new Porsche Macan EV will become the sole option for the foreseeable future in Malaysia, which is available in four variants, priced from RM430,000.

All variants feature a 100 kWh battery pack, providing a WLTP range of up to 641 km, and offer powertrain configurations ranging from 360 hp (265 kW) and 563 Nm in rear-wheel drive to 639 hp (470 kW) and 1,130 Nm in a dual-motor configuration.

As the Macan is built based on Porsche’s 800V PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform, DC charging is supported up to 270 kW, which enables a 10% to 80% charge in 21 minutes. AC charging is supported at 11 kW.

However, Porsche may also introduce a third crossover with a hybrid powertrain in the future. This was revealed by the German carmaker a little over a month ago, saying that they are “evaluating an independent model line in the SUV segment with combustion and hybrid powertrains”. The model, rumoured to be positioned between the Cayenne and Macan, could launch by the end of the decade.

This upcoming crossover will showcase Porsche’s latest design language and will be sold alongside the electric Macan, the recently-refreshed Cayenne, and the all-new electric Cayenne, the latter slated for a late 2025 debut.

Porsche initially aimed for 80% of its sales to be electric by 2030, but has since adjusted its goal. The company will continue to offer internal combustion, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles well into the 2030s.

In 2024, electrified models accounted for 27% of Porsche’s sales, with 12.7% being fully electric. For 2025, the German carmaker targets 33% to 35% electrified sales, with electric vehicles comprising 20% to 22%.
