Geely Boyue reaches 2 million-unit milestone – Proton X70’s Chinese cousin, 1 sold every 2.3 minutes!

Four years after achieving the 1,000,000-unit mark, Geely has now achieved yet another milestone with its Boyue SUV series – 2 million units sold globally.

The remarkable milestone for the comes off the back of an impressive sales performance in the first two months of 2025, with a total of 40,542 units sold. That, Geely says, is equivalent to one unit sold every 2.3 minutes.

Second-generation Geely Boyue

Geely says that its Boyue series has received widespread celebration in countries like Costa Rica, Moldova, Panama, Peru, Qatar, and UAE, with the model even topping sales charts in several countries.

The press release also highlighted the “CKD factory” in Malaysia, as part of Geely’s global push, that has helped the model reach the incredible achievement. That is, of course, referring to the Proton plant in Tanjung Malim that assembles the Proton X70, which is based on the first-generation Geely Boyue.

Aside from plain product exports, Geely says that its “global standards and regional adaptation” strategy, the latter including R&D for specific markets such as an improved air conditioning systems for the Saudi market and better chassis anti-corrosion processes in Southeast Asia, has given the Boyue an advantage worldwide, resulting in a customer satisfaction rate of 87% in overseas market, “far higher than the industry average”.

Geely Boyue L

Now in its second generation, the Geely Boyue series is available in two different models in China: the New Boyue (previously called Boyue Cool), as well as the Boyue L. While the two share a similar design, especially on the outside, they are actually quite different under the sheet metal.

The second-generation Geely Boyue is built on the B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA) platform, shared with the Proton S70 and X50, while the Boyue L gets the C-segment Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform that is also found underneath the Volvo XC40 and Lynk & Co models.

As such, the Boyue L – as the name implies – is actually larger than the standard Boyue, measuring some 160 mm more in length, alongside a 76 mm longer wheelbase.

Nevertheless, both models are powered by the same turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol unit, with 178 hp and 290 Nm on tap. The Boyue L, being the larger car, does get an additional turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four engine option, offering 215 hp and 325 Nm.

We don’t expect either of the second-generation Geely Boyue models to make their way into Malaysia anytime soon, as the Proton X70 has just been given a facelift update last year with a new front fascia inherited from the Boyue Pro (of the first-generation model).

Here, the sole powertrain option is the 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder mill in the TGDi direct injection form, offering up 177 hp and 255 Nm of torque. Power is sent exclusively to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

A key upgrade on the Proton X70 facelift is the inclusion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity in the new infotainment display inside. Pricing for the C-segment SUV model ranges from RM98,800 to RM126,800.
