2025 Lexus RZ facelift unveiled with new F-sport variant – simulated gearshifts and fake engine noise

Lexus has unveiled the refreshed fully electric (EV) Lexus RZ in Brussels, Belgium, with a global release to various regions beginning in fall 2025. Notably, it features a revamped battery electric vehicle (BEV) system, which Lexus claims enables increased motor output, extended driving range, and faster charging times.

Thanks to the new BEV system, the refreshed Lexus RZ is available with various powertrain outputs, including: 224 hp (front-wheel drive only), 313 hp, 340 hp, 380 hp, and 408 hp. The latter four are offered in all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations.

Among the new variants are the RZ350e, RZ500e, and RZ550e F Sport. All three variants are equipped with a 76.96 kWh battery pack, but the RZ350e is FWD, while the RZ500e and RZ550e F Sport are AWD models.

Specifically, the RZ350e features a front-mounted electric motor producing 227 hp (167 kW) and 269 Nm. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and has a WLTP range of 575 km.

The Lexus RZ500e adds a rear-mounted electric motor, achieving a total output of 380 hp (280 kW). This reduces the 0-100 km/h sprint to 4.6 seconds and has a WLTP range of 500 km.

Finally, the top-tier RZ550e F Sport has the same setup as the RZ500e, but its maximum output is increased to 408 hp (300 kW), achieving 0-100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. Its WLTP range is reduced to 450 km.

Lexus did not release official charging specifications for the refreshed Lexus RZ. However, the company claims improvements to battery components have enhanced charging performance, reducing charging time by up to 30 minutes. Additionally, a new battery preconditioning function optimises battery temperature before charging begins in cold weather conditions.

More interestingly, the F Sport variant of the refreshed Lexus RZ comes with a new ‘Interactive Manual Drive’ mode, which generates synthetic engine sounds and simulates an eight-speed automatic transmission during acceleration and deceleration, similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. This can be operated using paddle shifters located behind the steering wheel or yoke, where the latter is offered as an option in the Lexus RZ.

Other refinements to the Lexus RZ facelift include an improved steer-by-wire system (on the F Sport variant, optional on Luxury variants), suspension refinements, the ‘DIRECT4 AWD’ system, and improved sound deadening in the interior for better driving experience and ride comfort.

Additionally, the interior also features a dimmable panoramic sunroof, door cards upholstered in Ultrasuede, and a new ambient lighting system, which Lexus calls ‘Dynamic Shadowy Illumination (Multi-Color)’.

F Sport variants of the Lexus RZ get exclusive exterior styling elements finished in black, such as front lower bumper molding, brake ducts, rear spoiler, rear lower bumper, and 20-inch aero wheels. It also has an exclusive color called Neutrino Gray.

This is mirrored in the F Sport variants’ interior with an exclusive ‘BLACK x DK. GRAY’ interior scheme, exclusive front seat design, and F Sport details such as branded scuff plates, an F Sport emblem on the steering wheel, and aluminum pedals with a matching footrest.

In Malaysia, the pre-facelift Lexus RZ is currently available in a single variant, the RZ450e, priced at RM429,888. It features a dual-motor setup producing 313 hp and 435 Nm, with power delivered to all four wheels.

A 71.4 kWh battery pack provides a WLTP range of 440 km. Charging capabilities include 11 kW AC charging and 150 kW DC fast charging, the latter enabling a 0-80% charge in 30 minutes.
