It seems someone was a bit too eager to reveal the upcoming 2025 Volvo ES90, as an image of the fully-electric (EV) sedan has leaked online ahead of its official debut tomorrow, March 5, 2025.
The Volvo ES90 is part of a wave of five new models Volvo plans to unveil this year. This EV sedan is based on the SPA2 architecture, also used by the Volvo EX90, which will be launched in Malaysia soon.
Based on the leaked image, the ES90 essentially looks like the sedan version of the Volvo EX90, with similar “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights, a roof-mounted LiDAR unit, and flush door handles. This aligns with a series of teaser images Volvo released last year, offering glimpses of the ES90’s design features.
While official details about the Volvo ES90’s powertrain are still under wraps, we guess that it’ll likely share its powertrain with its SUV counterpart, which is offered in two all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations.
The base EX90, called the Twin Motor, packs 408 hp and 770 Nm, while the Twin Motor Performance variant boasts 517 hp and 910 Nm, achieving 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.

Both EX90 variants utilises a 111 kWh battery (107 kWh usable), providing a WLTP range of 600 km for the Twin Motor and 590 km for the Twin Motor Performance.
However, Volvo has revealed that the ES90 is built on an 800-volt architecture. The Swedish carmaker claims this allows the EV sedan to regain 300 km of range in just 10 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger and offers a WLTP range of up to 700 km.
The Volvo ES90 will also debut the company’s new in-house developed battery management software (BMS), which it claims reduces charging time from 10% to 80% by 30%, down to 20 minutes.
Volvo also states that the 800-volt platform in the ES90 enables lighter electric motors and other components, resulting in a lighter car and improved acceleration and driving range.
