Proton to launch at least 3 new models in 2025 – what could they be?

A slide during a media presentation by Proton has put certainty to the national carmaker launching at least three new models in 2025.

The presentation accompanying Proton CEO Li Chunrong’s speech highlighted one model with the AMA platform, and “at least one new model” from both the GMA and X/S series to be launched in 2025. So what exactly are they?

The Geely Galaxy Starship 7

The AMA bit most likely refers to the next-generation Proton Saga, of which a test mule has recently been spotted on the road. Those expecting an actually-all-new Saga might have to wait a little longer, though, as the AMA platform has been rumoured to be an evolution of the current platform that dates back to the Saga BLM from 2008, instead of a completely new chassis.

Next up is the GMA platform that underpins the Proton eMAS 7. in Li’s speech, he specifically mentioned the eMAS 3 and eMAS 5, which could see both models coming to Malaysia this year. It could even indicate a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the eMAS 7, based on the Geely Galaxy Starship 7.

The current Proton Saga is due for a much needed refresh

Lastly comes the X/S series, and the most likely contender here is the Proton X50 facelift, which has also been spotted recently doing its road tests in Malaysia. The big news here is that the refresh has also been rumoured to include a new 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four engine, replacing the 1.5-litre three-cylinder that Proton has been locally assembling in its new engine plant.

What else? We think there’s a possible “minor change” update coming for the X90, since it’s the oldest model in Proton’s X/S line-up currently – but only time will tell!
