Three years after the model was first unveiled, the BYD Atto 3 will soon be getting a mid life-cycle facelift update for 2025, with first images already revealed in China courtesy of our friends in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
According to CarNewsChina, the new 2025 BYD Atto 3 – known as the Yuan Plus in its home country – was filed in MIIT’s listings under the “adjustments and updates” category, which suggests only a minor design facelift and specifications update, with no changes to its powertrains.
The most notable change that we can see through the regulatory photos are the new bumpers, particularly up front with two new painted fin-like structures bookending the lower air intakes. The same fin-like trims have also been replicated onto the rear bumper, complemented by a new third-brake light design, housed in the new curvy roof spoiler up top.
Round the side, there is now a simpler chrome strip between the wheels, rather than the chunky skid plate-like design. The crossover’s C-pillar also gets a more elegant-looking trim design, almost reminiscent of the Lexus RX.
CarNewsChina noted in its report that there is a new camera located on BYD’s front bumper, hinting at an updated ADAS kit as a result of its partnership with drone maker DJI back in April last year. If you ask us, though, we think it’s more probable it’s just a relocated camera for the 360-degree surround view monitor – although we’d be happy to be proven wrong!
Back home in Malaysia, the ever-popular BYD Atto 3 was last updated in September last year, offered in a sole Extended Range variant at RM150,430 on-the-road and without insurance.
Thanks to its larger 60.48 kWh battery, the BYD Atto 3 Extended Range returns a WLTP-rated range of 420 km in a single charge. The single motor on the front axle with 201 hp and 310 Nm also translates to a century sprint time of 7.3 seconds.
