Perodua shatters records in 2024 – increased sales and production

Perodua has achieved a historic milestone for its production and sales figures in 2024. The second national carmaker sold 358,102 cars in 2024. It’s an 8.3% increase over its previous record of 330,325 cars sold in 2023.

On the production side, Perodua produced 368,100 cars in 2024. This marks Perodua’s highest production volume in its 30-year history, surpassing its previous record of 343,400 vehicles produced in 2023 by 7.2%.

Quarter-on-quarter, Perodua registered 97,741 vehicles between October and December 2024, a 0.7% increase from the 97,098 vehicles registered in the same period in 2023.

In December 2024, the company sold 32,202 vehicles, a 3.2% increase compared to 31,210 vehicles sold in December 2023.

Aside from setting sales and production records, Perodua is gearing up for the launch of its first-ever electric vehicle (EV) model, set to debut sometime in 2025.

The latest preview of Perodua’s first EV is the eMO-II concept, unveiled at last year’s Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 (KLIMS 2024). This concept car provides a glimpse of what’s to come for Perodua’s first EV model.

Aiming for a sub-RM100k price point, the production version is expected to feature a single motor on the front axle, producing 160 hp (120 kW) and 220 Nm. The targeted range on a single charge is around 400 km, from a 50-60 kWh battery pack.

Most recently, Perodua has signed a strategic partnership with Telekom Malaysia (TM) to advance the carmaker’s EV development and co-develop several products, which includes a customised infotainment system.

Could this mean streaming movies in Perodua’s EV while it’s charging when it debuts? We won’t have to wait long to find out!
