The 2024 Zeekr 009 asserts its intentions by undercutting the Toyota Alphard in Thailand; sign of things to come here?

The battery-electric 2024 Zeekr 009 has been launched in Thailand and hasn’t held back on marking its territory in the luxury MPV segment by undercutting the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire that are the current dynamic duo in that field.

Only a sole variant will be available, the Flagship AWD, priced at 3.099 million baht (approximately RM 395,000). That’s significant savings compared to the Alphard and Vellfire that range between 4.129 million to 4.499 million baht (approximately RM 526,000 to RM 573,000).

The fully-imported-from-China Zeekr 009 is powered by dual electric motors for a total output of 612 hp and 693 Nm of torque. Feeding the motors is a massive 116 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery that delivers a WLTP-rated 582 km. DC fast charging up to 310 kW allows it to go from a 10-80% state of charge in just 11.5 minutes.

If you’re in an MPV, it shouldn’t matter but for those whom it may concern, the century sprint is 4.5 seconds while the top speed is 230 km/h.

Thailand is the second right-hand drive market (RHD) market for the 009 after Hong Kong and hence, the equipment is identical. That includes air-suspension, a 2+2+2 seat layout with the mandatory powered lounge seats in the middle with a massage function, power-sliding doors, twin panoramic roof, a 30-speaker Yamaha stereo sound system and 20-inch wheels.

Luxury seems to be synonymous with screens these days and only Bugatti appears to have missed that memo with the Tourbillon. Nonetheless, the 009 gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an OLED 17-inch rear passenger display.

You can have your Thai 009 in one of three shades; Crystal White with a black interior, Electric Blue with a black or grey/white interior, or Phantom Black with a black or blue/white interior.

The MPV itself is covered by a 5-year or 150,000 km warranty but the motor and battery get an extended 8-year or 180,000 km coverage. Deliveries will begin in October 2024.

While the 009 and the Zeekr X have been confirmed for the Malaysian market, there are no concrete dates for a launch. It wouldn’t be the first battery-electric luxury MPV in the market, the Maxus Mifa 9 snatched that title but could the 009 put up more of a challenge to the Alphard and Vellfire?
