Volvo’s latest electric SUV is now in Malaysia, and it’s absolutely tiny. In fact, the all-new Volvo EX30 is one of the smallest car ever from the Swedish brand, coming in even more compact than the XC40 and C40 Recharge Pure Electric (now called EX40 and EC40).
But being small isn’t the only thing that it’s got going for it, because despite its pint-sized stature, it certainly packs a punch – as in, 428 hp and 543 Nm of punch from its the range-topping variant’s dual-motor setup, making it the fastest accelerating Volvo ever, taking just 3.6 seconds to go from 0-100 km/h.
As for the two lower-end variants, they get a single rear-mounted motor, capable of delivering 272 hp and 343 Nm. Century sprint on these take 5.3 seconds – still plenty quick for a city car.
All three variants are powered by the same 69 kWh battery pack (64 kWh usable), which translates to a driving range of 450 km on the range-topping Ultra Twin Performance, and 476 km on the two single-motor variants. Recharging takes 28 minutes (10-80%) using a 175 kW DC fast charger, or approximately eight hours with the on-board 11 kW AC charger.
Impressed? The Volvo EX30 still has a lot going for it too, like the fact that it has the smallest carbon footprint of any Volvo models to date (thanks to the use of recycled materials inside), or the fact that it starts from RM188,888 here in Malaysia – inclusive of a five-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, eight-year battery warranty, five years of free service, as well as five years of free internet connectivity for the Google Built-in infotainment system.
