Proton e.MAS7 makes first public debut at Merdeka Parade, to launch by end of 2024

During the Merdeka Parade this year, Proton took the opportunity to showcase its upcoming first electric car, the Proton e.MAS7. Shown in a special Jalur Gemilang-inspired wrap, the Proton e.MAS7 joined a parade of 25 cars from Proton during the celebration of Malaysia’s 67th independence day.

The Proton e.MAS7 was first shown to members of the media in early August this year, albeit in a different camouflage wrap. Said to share the same underpinnings as the Geely Galaxy E5, the e.MAS7 is a C-segment SUV that will offer a new alternative option for those looking to buy an electric vehicle (EV). The e.MAS7 will benefit from the latest Aegis short-blade LFP battery technology that is also featured in the Galaxy E5.

Even after its first public appearance at the Merdeka Parade, full details of the Proton e.MAS7 have yet to be revealed. We still have no estimates on its battery capacity, range, power outputs, and charging capabilities. However, if the Geely Galaxy E5 is anything to go by, the Proton e.MAS7 could sport the same 160 kW (218 hp metric) front-mounted electric motor, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. Two battery capacities are offered with the Geely Galaxy E5, namely a 49.52 kWh and a 60.22 kWh unit. These batteries give the all-electric SUV CLTC-rated ranges of 440 km and 530 km respectively.

Officially, Proton has only revealed fundamental information of the Proton e.MAS7. This includes its cell-to-body (CTB) integration, GMA 01 Platform, as well as the Aegis Short Blade Battery technology which is said to have better durability and safety.

PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer, Zhang Qiang said, “I am immensely proud of the Proton e.MAS 7’s debut at the Merdeka Day Parade, where it truly captured the hearts and attention of the public. The enthusiastic response from the crowd demonstrated a strong resonance with our vision for sustainable mobility and innovation.”

“Seeing the e.MAS 7 in action was a moment of national pride, showcasing our commitment to building a greener mobility for Malaysia. This debut not only highlights our dedication to innovation excellence but also reinforces the connection between our brand and the Malaysian people, making it an indelible milestone in our journey toward an electric future.”
