All-new 2024 Audi Q5 goes hybrid only – SQ5 gets new V6 engine

Audi‘s rolling out the all-new 2024 Audi Q5 SUV. Now in its third-generation, the all-new 2024 model is a modern rehash of Audi’s signature recipe that has made the Q5 the marque’s bestseller, and one of the most popular SUVs in the midsize-segment in Germany and Europe for more than 15 years.

Audi plans to use its SUV models, which accounted for 17% (334,480) of its global sales last year, to transition the brand from traditional petrol and diesel-powered cars to electric vehicles (EVs). And that is why, unlike the new A5 sedan and A5 Avant (wagon), the third-generation Audi Q5 would not be offered with a pure combustion engine.

The initial power sources will be a variety of mild hybrids, including two petrol and one diesel engine. Later, plug-in hybrids will be added to the lineup. On the all-new 2024 Audi Q5 is the base engine option of a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder engine, producing 201 hp (metric) and 340 Nm of torque. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, while all-wheel drive (AWD) is optionally available.

A turbocharged diesel variant is also available, with similar capacity and power to the petrol model but has a 60 Nm extra torque advantage which makes a total of 400 Nm of torque. It also comes standard with AWD.

As for the SQ5, the sportier model now gets a new 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol V6 engine. The new engine now produces 362 hp (metric) and 550 Nm, which is an increase of 20 hp from the previous engine.

All models will feature MHEV plus technology, offering an extra 24 hp (metric) of power for brief moments. The seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission (DCT) is standard across all variants.

Two plug-in hybrid options are scheduled to be released next year. It will produce 295 hp (metric) and 362 hp (metric), respectively.

The all-new 2024 Audi Q5 is based on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), much like the new Audi A5. The platform, says Audi, offers plenty of flexibility and allows for low cars like the A5, and higher ones like the new Q5.

It also features a redesigned exterior that, while familiar in shape, incorporates new elements and a new minimalist design language. A large grille and air intakes dominate the front, with LED headlights and a thin strip of LEDs above. The sides showcase subtle sculpting and black trim to enhance its overall appearance.

It will come standard in 18-inch wheels, with 19- and 20-inch being optional. The SQ5 starts with 20-inch alloy wheels, with 21-inch being an option as well.

The all-new 2024 Audi Q5’s taillights feature innovative OLED technology that allows for dynamic animations. These animations can be used to signal other drivers about potential hazards, such as heavy braking or accidents. The third brake light is designed to enhance visibility by projecting a light pattern onto the rear window. It is located on the underside of the rear spoiler.

The interior design features a significant departure from its predecessor. The dashboard is characterised by two large, interconnected screens, collectively known as the Digital Stage. The infotainment display measures 14.5 inches and is the keeper of all settings, audio controls, HVAC, and other vehicle controls. There is a volume knob that can be used as a joystick to skip a track or as a seek function for the radio. The driver instrument cluster measures 11.9 inches and shows vehicle speed and other information.

The all-new 2024 Audi Q5’s digital cluster offers a limited range of customization options compared to Audi’s existing digital gauges. However, this is somewhat offset by the optionally availability of a larger, customisable head-up display. Additionally, an optional 10.9-inch screen for the passenger can enhance the infotainment experience, though it is designed to prevent distractions for the driver.

Audi provides a wide range of driver assistance systems in the all-new 2024 Audi Q5 models. It offers a range of optional assistance packages designed to enhance driving safety and convenience. These packages include features such as the Adaptive Driving Assistant plus, which uses advanced technology to optimize traffic sign recognition and assist with various driving tasks. Other available features include Active Front Assist, traffic sign-based cruise control, Park Assist plus, and Rear Turn Assist.
