2024 MG HS previewed in Malaysia – X70 rival, starting price from below RM130k


The MG HS, a midsize SUV, has been previewed in Malaysia, alongside the MG5 GT. The HS will compete with models like the Proton X70 and Honda CR-V, and it is available in 2 variants the MG HS Standard and the MG HS Lux. MG Motor Malaysia has confirmed that the MG HS Standard will be priced below RM130,000 while the MG HS Lux will be priced below RM150,000.

Dimension-wise, the HS measures 4,574 mm in length, 1,876 mm in width, 1,664 mm in height, and is underpinned by a 2,720 mm wheelbase. It comes with a MacPherson strut front suspension with a stabilizer bar and a multi-link rear independent suspension with a stabilizer bar.

Exterior-wise, the HS comes standard with LED headlights, LED daytime running lights (DRL), LED taillights, auto headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, a dual exhaust outlet, and a panoramic sunroof. It comes with 4 exterior colours which are red, white, black, and silver.

Standard exterior equipment on the MG HS Standard include:

The MG HS Lux adds:

For Malaysia, the HS is offered with one powertrain option only. It is the petrol powertrain with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged direct injection engine that makes 162 hp and 250 Nm. Its engine is paired with a 7-speed twin-clutch transmission and power is sent to the front wheels (FWD) only. The MG HS does 0-100km/h in 9.6 seconds, onward to a top speed of 190 km/h.

Inside, the MG HS comes standard with black leather upholstery, 6-way powered front seats, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, and online music streaming services. It also comes with a 3D 360-degree camera, a power tailgate, and a 6-speakers system.

Standard interior equipment for the MG HS Standard include:

On the safety side, the MG HS comes standard with basic safety items. This includes anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), vehicle dynamic control, corner brake control, active rollover protection, hill start assist, and hill descent control.

Exclusive to the MG HS Lux are advanced safety features packaged in the MG Pilot suite. This includes items like adaptive cruise control (ACC), automatic emergency braking (AEB), lane departure warning (LDW), lane departure prevention (LDP), prevention collision warning (PCW), traffic sign recognition (TSR), and front cross-traffic alert. It also comes with an augmented reality (AR) navigation system that uses a camera to help display a real image on the meter with arrows telling you to go straight or turn left or right.

Upon its launch, the MG HS will be equipped with a 5-year/unlimited mileage general warranty and a 7-year/unlimited mileage powertrain warranty. It is expected to be launched in September.
