The all-new Audi A5 brings back real exhaust tips, because nobody likes fake ones

The debut of the all-new A5 is a rather significant one for the brand. Not just because it replaces the petrol-powered A4 (and starts the odd/even petrol/electric naming convention of Audi), but also because it brings back something we all love – real exhaust tips.

Over the recent years, Audi has been notoriously giving us fake exhaust tips and it doesn’t take a car enthusiast to recognize it at first glance. Manufacturers have a good reason for not giving us real exhaust tips (safety, practicality, cost limitations), but if it’s going to be fake, it might as well not be there.

Speaking to Auto Express, an Audi spokesperson said, “All PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) cars will have ‘hot’ tailpipes; functional tailpipes”. And that’s good news to our ears as the fake exhaust trend has been rampant, especially among Chinese SUVs.

The Audi spokesperson said that the decision to bring back real exhaust tips was a result of “customer feedback” which is a nicer way of saying most of us hated fake exhaust tips to the core. And while while Audi’s PPC cars will be blessed with real exhaust tips, it is uncertain if smaller non-PPC models will be blessed with them too.

The all-new Audi A5 is built on the PPC architecture and it replaces the petrol-powered Audi A4. It also comes with a new engine option and you can learn more about the car here. In Malaysia, the Audi A5 is still available in its “old” as the A5 Sportback.

And while this sounds pleasing to the average petrolhead, Audi is still on its track to a fully electric future by 2033. Thus as petrol heads, we might as well celebrate this small “win” that we have at this moment in time.
