Your next Lazada order may arrive on a Gentari leased EV bike

Gentari Sdn Bhd and Lazada Malaysia have announced a collaboration that pilots the use of electric bikes (eBikes) for last-mile delivery purposes. The eBikes are part of Gentari’s Vehicle-as-a-Service offerings which is a long-term leasing solution for commercial fleet operators.

Officiated at Gentari’s charging station at XPark Sunway Serene, a total of 25 eBikes will be introduced for this pilot programme. Not just focusing on boosting electric car adoption, Gentari’s effort with this program is in line with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) that targets 80% of two-wheelers in Malaysia to be electrified by 2050. The event was officiated by Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz.

Gentari Green Mobility Deputy CEO, Shah Yang Razalli said, “Malaysia has one of the highest rates of vehicle ownership among East Asian countries, which significantly contribute to carbon emissions in the country. To help lower emissions from the transportation sector, Gentari is now introducing electric two-wheelers as part of our Vehicle-as-a-Service offering, targeted towards facilitating businesses to transition to EVs. We are excited to collaborate with Lazada in decarbonising their logistics fleet operations.”

“Today, our focus on making commercial fleets more sustainable helps drive the transition across various societal and economic levels, especially within the vital last-mile delivery sector. Additionally, our strategy aligns with national goals such as the National Energy Transition Roadmap’s targets and Bursa Malaysia’s ESG reporting mandate that is spurring corporations to adopt green mobility,” he added.

Currently, Gentari has over 400 charging points nationwide with 120 of them being DC fast chargers. This makes Gentari the largest operator of fast chargers nationwide. And the eBike program with Lazada isn’t Gentari’s first foray into the business of Vehicle-as-a-Service. The company has already delivered over 3,400 vehicles for this matter across Malaysia, India, and Indonesia.

Lazada Malaysia Chief Logistics Officer, Venkat Shankar said, “We are excited to embark on this partnership with Gentari, which underscores our dedication to ESG principles and accelerates our journey towards a greener future. This collaboration sets a new environmental standard in logistics, not only by boosting our operational efficiency but also reducing our carbon footprint. It reflects our commitment to support Malaysia’s journey towards environmental sustainability and we hope to work together with Gentari to make this positive difference, one delivery at a time.”
