Jaecoo J7 PHEV showcased in Malaysia – 1.5L TGDi, 88km EV range

Aside from the Jaecoo J6, Jaecoo Malaysia has also showcased the Jaecoo J7 PHEV at Malaysia Autoshow 2024. Essentially a more environmentally friendly variant of the regular J7, it made its debut at the Beijing Motor Show held just a while ago.

On the outside, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV shares an identical design to the non-hybrid J7. It has also been decorated to look more premium and sporty than its regular sibling.

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV comes with exterior equipment such as LED headlights, LED taillights, and sequential turn signals. Also included are flush door handles and a set of 19-inch wheels which look closely similar to the ones featured on the Chery Omoda E5.

As its name suggests, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is powered by the brand’s plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system. The system consists of a 1.5-litre TGDi petrol engine and a front-mounted single electric motor setup.

Paired with a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), the PHEV setup puts out a system output of 347 hp and 525 Nm. Jaecoo claims that the J7 PHEV can deliver fuel consumption as low as 20.4 km/l and travel as far as 88 km in pure electric mode.

It also supports DC fast charging, although no details regarding its charging rate and charging speeds have been revealed just yet. Also included is the vehicle-to-load (V2L) function to power your appliances or whatnot, which isn’t something you usually see in PHEVs.

At the time of writing, the Jaecoo J8 PHEV has yet to make its launch in Malaysia, this is merely a showcase of the SUV. Anyhow, would you consider this environmentally friendly premium SUV? Do share your thoughts with us!
