Tesla Cybertruck teased in Thailand, first SEA debut ahead of Malaysia?

Tesla has just teased its pickup truck – the Tesla Cybertruck for the Thai market. Having put out a teaser poster with a tagline that reads “Feel the Ground Tremble, Thailand?”, the teaser features the Cybertruck’s LED lightbar headlights in the background, with the Model 3 and Model Y peaking out from the bottom corners.

At the bottom of the teaser poster is a call to action to follow Tesla Thailand on the Line chat app platform for more info on the Cybertruck. The American carmaker has also released a teaser video on its social media platforms to excite the Cybertruck’s upcoming arrival in Thailand, showing the pickup truck covered in a black cloth being transported down from the cargo plane at the airport.

Malaysia has always been the first Southeast Asian market to receive Tesla models, including the Model 3 and the Model Y. However, it looks like things may be different with the Tesla Cybertruck this time, as pickup trucks are highly popular in Thailand. Though, no launch date has been confirmed for the Land of Smiles just yet.

Since its global introduction back in 2019, the Cybertruck has gotten quite an amount of attention for its design, which looks nothing like the regular pickup truck we are used to seeing. Its angular exterior and raw metal appearance are not there for no reason though, as it wears a stainless-steel exoskeleton that is claimed to help reduce dents, damage, and long-term corrosion. Beyond its body panels, the Tesla Cybertruck also sports an armour glass which is claimed to be able to resist the impact of a baseball at 112 km/h or class 4 hail.

Made its global debut late last year, the Tesla Cybertruck is available in three variants, namely the range-topping Cyberbeast, the All-Wheel Drive (AWD), and the entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD). It is to be noted that the RWD variant won’t be available until 2025.

Powering the entry-level Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast is a tri-motor AWD setup that puts out 845 hp, enabling it to perform the century sprint in just 2.7 seconds, and achieve a top speed of 209 km/h. The Cyberbeast’s all-electric range is rated at 515 km.

The mid-range Tesla Cybertruck AWD on the other hand packs a dual-motor AWD powertrain that feeds 600 hp to all four wheels, resulting in a century sprint time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h. The AWD variant’s maximum range is rated at 547 km.

Despite not being ready for production just yet, the entry-level Tesla Cybertruck RWD is said to feature a single-motor setup that enables it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 180 km/h. The electric range for the entry-level truck is rated at an estimated 402 km.
