2024 BYD Atto 3 update: “Build Your Dreams” lettering dropped, new 15.6-inch screen

The BYD Atto 3 has been given an update for 2024 and has already quietly touched down in markets like Singapore and more recently Japan. The pre-update BYD Atto 3 was launched in Malaysia in late 2022.

Here is a summary of the updates of the 2024 BYD Atto 3:

  • New Cosmos Black exterior colour
  • New optional black & blue two-tone interior (in addition to existing white & blue dual-tone)
  • New 15.6-inch screen (replaces 12.8-inch screen)
  • New blacked-out “ripple” trim on D-Pillar
  • Higher rated maximum DC charging rate of 88 kW
  • Wider 235/50R18 Continental Eco Contact 6 Q tyres (previously 215/55 R18 Atlas Batman tyres)
  • “Build Your Dreams” lettering replaced by “BYD” lettering

On the outside, the most significant changes to the BYD Atto 3 would be the new “BYD” lettering in place of the old “Build Your Dreams” lettering and the blacked-out “dragon scales” on the D-pillars which were previously finished in a bright metallic grey colour. Those are your best bets for distinguishing the 2024 update from its older version. Other than that, the obvious exterior change for the BYD Atto 3 would be the new Cosmos Black exterior colour option.

What may not be obvious at first glance is the new set of tyres that the Atto 3 gets. Previously using a set of Atlas Batman tyres (215/55R18), the Atto 3 now sits on a set of wider Continental Eco Contact 6 tyres (235/50R18). This new set of tyres was announced for the Atto 3 back in May 2023, and the 2024 update will have no history of using the superhero-named tyres.

Inside, the literal big change to the Atto 3 would be the new 15.6-inch screen. Previously 12.8 inches in size, the bigger screen remains rotatable, allowing you to switch between a horizontal and a vertical orientation. The interface retains the same look, and the Singaporean spec sheet suggests the availability of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (not specified if wired or wireless).

Other than that, the interior of the BYD Atto 3 gets a new black and blue dual-tone colour option in addition to the existing white and blue combination that is available in our market. The black & blue combo, however, is only available for the Atto 3 units that come in the Cosmos Black and Boulder Grey exterior colours.

As for the EV numbers, the new 2024 BYD Atto 3 interestingly has a new higher maximum DC charging rate of 88 kW (previously stated at 80 kW). This bump isn’t a significant one and some current BYD owners have reported of achieving this figure with the pre-update version. It could be a spec-sheet update only for all we know.

Otherwise, the 2024 BYD Atto 3 shares the same specifications as the pre-updated version. In Japan, it still makes the same 150 kW (201 hp metric) and 310 Nm from a single motor set-up that drives the front wheels.

In Singapore, however, the Atto 3 makes less power at 100 kW (134 hp) but with the same torque output of 310 Nm. Thus, the new Atto 3 in Singapore does 0-100 km/h in 10.1 seconds. The pre-update Malaysia-spec Atto 3 and the updated Japan-spec Atto 3 do the century sprint in 7.3 seconds.

The updated Atto 3 retains the same 60.5 kWh battery and the same 420 km WLTP (480 km NEDC) range. Charging-wise, it retains the same 6.6 kW single-phase AC charging maximum rate although its DC charging is now reportedly faster on paper at 88 kW maximum. Safety equipment remains the same on the 2024 BYD Atto 3.
