Lexus NX updated in Japan – new Overtrail variant, adds Sonic Copper colour option

The Lexus NX has received an update in Japan. Aside from some cosmetic changes and equipment upgrades, a new Overtrail variant has also been added to all variants in the lineup, except for the base NX 250.

Made to suit its customers looking for a car to match their outdoor lifestyles, the new Overtrail variant provides the Lexus NX with a series of blacked-out bits. This includes the front grille, window frames, door handles, side-view mirrors, and the roof rails.

The Lexus NX Overtrail in Japan is fitted with a set of black 18-inch wheels. Lexus has also given the outdoor-themed NX an additional 15 mm of ground clearance compared to the standard model to make it more outdoor-capable.

On top of all this, the Lexus NX Overtrail can be had with a variant-exclusive colour known as “Moon Desert”, as seen in the pictures here. Inside the Japanese-spec Lexus NX Overtrail is also a new variant-exclusive interior colour known as “Monolith”.

Looking more outdoorsy both outside and in, the Lexus is not all show but no go, as it comes with an improved “Trail” mode. This automatically controls wheel spin, which tends to occur on uneven roads.

With the improved Trail mode, power distribution has been further optimised for the all-wheel drive (AWD)-equipped variants in Japan. Lexus’ Adaptive Variable Suspension has been specially tuned for the Overtrail trim, which works in conjunction with the Trail mode to provide a more stable and comfortable ride when travelling through uneven roads.

Aside from the new Overtrail trim, Lexus has also given some upgrades to the NX SUV lineup in Japan. The Lexus NX 350h F Sport and NX 350 F Sport now get the brand’s full LED headlights that come equipped with the adaptive high beam system.

The Sonic Copper exterior colour, which was first made available with the Lexus RX, has been added to the NX’s colour library in Japan. The Version L trim has also received the Solis White interior colour option. Also added to all variants are illuminations for the door handles.

For better handling stability and ride comfort, the Lexus engineers over in Japan have given the NX’s suspension a retune, and have strengthened the SUV’s body rigidity. The Japanese marque also claims reduced engine noise with the updated NX.

Inside, all variants except for the Overtrail variant get a new Hazel interior colour. Two USB Type-C charging ports have been added to the centre storage box of the instrument panel across the range. The NX 350h and NX 250 in Japan now get a larger 14-inch Display Audio Plus infotainment system, a significant upgrade from the previous 9.8-inch Display Audio system.

On the safety side of things, the Lexus NX 350 F Sport in Japan is now equipped with Lexus’ Advanced Park package and Parking Support Brake safety features. The updated Lexus NX has been made available throughout Japan since yesterday, February 29, 2024.

Closer to home, the Lexus NX is offered in two variants – the NX 250 Luxury and the NX 350 F Sport. Prices for the luxury SUV start from RM375,888.
