2024 Porsche Macan EV debuts – bigger, smarter, power-packed!

After 10 years of the Porsche Macan and more than 800,000 units sold, the new second-generation 2024 Macan EV has been unveiled as a fully electric vehicle. Making its global premiere in Singapore, the new Macan will be available in two variants – the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo.

As you’d expect, it has all the performance that comes with a Porsche. With Launch Control, the Macan 4 produces up to 408 hp and 650 Nm while the Macan Turbo up to 639 hp and 1,130 Nm

The 0-100 km/h time for the Macan 4 is 5.2 seconds, with a top speed of 220 km/h, while the Macan Turbo in 3.3 seconds, onwards to 260 km/h. For perspective, the 992 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S does 0-100 km/h in about 3.4 seconds.

Both the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo are powered by two electric motors, giving them all-wheel drive capabilities. The electronically-controlled Porsche Traction Management (ePTM) operates around five times faster than a conventional all-wheel drive system and can respond to slip within 10 milliseconds.

The Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), an electronically-controlled differential lock on the rear axle also contributes to the traction, driving stability and lateral dynamics of the Macan Turbo.

Macan models with air suspension – standard on the Turbo – are equipped with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) electronic damping control. This can also be combined with the steel-spring suspension as an option.

The PASM now also features dampers with two-valve technology. Thanks to the more expansive damper map, the differences in ride and handling between the driving modes are even more obvious.

For the first time, the Macan has optional rear-axle steering, with a maximum steering angle of five degrees. This enables a smaller turning circle of 11.1 metres in urban traffic while simultaneously offering exceptional driving stability at higher speeds.

The 2024 Macan EV is built on Volkswagen Group’s new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) 800-volt architecture, with a lithium-ion battery capacity of 100 kWh. That’s even larger than the optional 93.4 kWh Performance battery Plus available for the Taycan. The Macan 4’s WLTP range is up to 613 km and up to 591 km in the Macan Turbo.

The new Macan can take up to 270 kW DC charging, and up to 11 kW AC charging. With DC charging, 10-80% state-of-charge takes about 21 minutes

At 400-volt charging stations, a high-voltage switch in the battery enables bank charging by effectively splitting the 800-volt battery into two batteries, each with a rated voltage of 400 volts. This enables efficient charging, without an additional high voltage booster, up to 135 kW.

Up to 240 kW of energy can be recuperated via the electric motors while driving. The Integrated Power Box (IPB) also contributes to the efficiency of the new Macan models, while saving weight and space. The IPB combines three components – the on-board AC charger, the high-voltage heater and the DC/DC converter.

The new Macan measures 4,784 mm long, 1,938 mm wide and 1,622 mm tall, with a 2,893 mm wheelbase, making it larger in every way than the previous Macan. For comparison, the previous Macan GTS measured 4,726 mm long, 1,927 mm wide, 1,596 mm tall, with a 2,807 mm wheelbase. The longer wheelbase is offset by short overhangs at the front and rear.

The Macan is available with 21-inch and 22-inch wheels, while tyre options include Michelin Pilot Sport EV and Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport tyres. The Macan EV also debuts the new Turbonite emblem, featuring dark chrome and black details, as first seen on the new Panamera.

The headlights with optional Matrix LED technology now sit in the front bumper, while the daytime running lights are placed where the headlamps used to be. Also new to the Macan are frameless doors. The rear wheel arches are also more pronounced for a muscular look. The Porsche logo now sits in the centre of the sculptural 3D light strip.

The Macan also features an adaptive rear spoiler, active cooling flaps on the front air intakes and flexible covers on the fully sealed underbody as part of the Porsche Active Aerodynamics package. With a drag coefficient of 0.25, the new Macan is one of the most streamlined SUVs on the market.

Electrification has led to increased luggage space in the 2024 Macan EV. Depending on the model and equipment fitted, boot space ranges between 540 litres to 1,348 litres (Macan 4) and between 480 litres to 1,288 litres (Macan Turbo). At the front is an 84-litre ‘frunk’, which can be opened with a swipe of the hand across the Porsche emblem.

Inside, the front passengers now sit up to 28 mm lower and rear passengers up to 15 mm lower with increased rear legroom. The new centre console design gives a low and performance-focused position in the vehicle.

With most of the controls being touch-sensitive, Porsche has left some analogue controls for the air vents and air-conditioning. An LED light strip is integrated into the dashboard and doors and acts as both ambient lighting and a communication light. Depending on the situation, it provides information or warnings such as for greetings, charging processes or when driver assistance systems are in operation.

It is screens galore in the new 2024 Macan EV. It now offers up to three screens – a 12.6-inch meter display, a 10.9-inch centre display and for the first time, an optional 10.9-inch display for the front passenger.

Also for the first time, the Porsche Driver Experience includes a head-up display with augmented reality technology. With that, navigation arrows are visually integrated seamlessly into the real world. The image appears to the driver at a distance of 10 metres and corresponds to the size of an 87-inch display.

The new-generation infotainment system is based on Android Automotive OS. With the Porsche Communication Management (PCM), the “Hey Porsche” voice assistant can now suggest routes, including charging stops, at lightning speed.

The Porsche App Centre allows users to directly access apps from third-party providers and install them directly in the new Macan. Unlike before, the new Macan is now available with Android Auto, on top of Apple CarPlay. As for the first-generation petrol-powered Macan, it will still be available and will be sold alongside the new 2024 Macan EV until further notice.
