All-new fully-electric 2nd-gen Porsche Macan to debut 25 Jan – 500 km range, up to 612 hp, 1,000 Nm!

The all-new second-generation Porsche Macan, which will debut as a fully-electric model, will soon be making its first global appearance on January 25, Porsche’s official website has now confirmed.

Developed from the ground up on the Volkswagen Group’s PPE platform, the all-new second-generation Porsche Macan will share much of its underpinnings with the upcoming Audi Q6 e-tron – although with the usual Porsche identity touches including a bespoke interior design.

Porsche is currently completing final verification tests for the all-new second-generation Macan. Even with the car heavily camouflaged, you can already see the SUV’s new swoopy exterior design. Indeed, the German sportscar-maker says that it has focused its efforts on enhancing the compact SUV’s aerodynamics performance, boasting a drag coefficient as low as 0.25 Cd in normal cruising – making it one of the most aerodynamic SUVs on the market today.

A flat, sealed-off underbody and flexible fairings minimises air resistance for optimal cruising range, while the Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) system helps with performance-focused aerodynamics, including a deployable rear spoiler and active cooling flaps in the front bumper.

Paired to a 100 kWh battery pack on all variants, of which 95 kWh is usable, the second-generation Porsche Macan will sport a fully-electric driving range in excess of 500 km in a single charge, based on the WLTP test cycle. Built on an 800-volt electric infrastructure, the Macan will also allow fast charging of up to 270 kW, while AC charging is rated at 11 kW.

Thanks to its parallel battery banks, the next-generation Porsche Macan only takes 22 minutes to charge from 10-80% at any regular 400V charging stations at up to 150 kW.

As for performance, the second-generation Porsche Macan will offer up to 450 kW (612 hp) and 1,000 Nm of torque in overboost mode for the range-topping variant. All-wheel drive is a given, but power is distributed with a rear bias to give the SUV “driving dynamics typical of the brand”, alongside a “familiar steering feel”.

The impressive performance is complemented by air suspensions with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) two-valve dampers, rear-axle transverse lock, and rear-axle steering of up to five degrees – the latter being a first-ever addition to the Macan.

Performance figures for the electric Macan has not been disclosed yet, but the company says that it has already completed over 3.5 million km of combined testing on tracks and public roads, many of which focused on extreme-weather endurance.
