3rd-generation Porsche Panamera debuts – New turbo-exclusive badge, Active Ride suspension system

Porsche has debuted the third-generation Porsche Panamera. Still sitting on the same platform as its predecessor, the Panamera is now available in three variants, namely the standard Porsche Panamera, the Panamera 4, and the top-of-the-line Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid.

On the outside, the third-generation Porsche Panamera is fitted with Matrix LED headlights as standard. Optionally, customers can opt for The HD Matrix LED lighting system which is brighter thanks to having more than 32,000 pixels per headlight. It also boasts an illumination tanger of up to 600 metres.

Up front, there is an additional air intake above the number plate compensates for the increased air requirement of the drive systems. The top-of-the-line Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid also gets a rear apron with painted diffuser panels and a front apron in body colour.

There are also chrome-plated tailpipes in dark bronze and optional centre-lock wheels, which can also be specified on the other models. The Turbo-exclusive colour Turbonite is used as a contrast on the side window strips and the Turbo logo on the tailgate, as well as in the Porsche crest on the bonnet, wheels and steering wheel. Also exclusive to the top-spec Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid is the brand’s Turbonite metallic grey Porsche badge at the front of the car, as well as its steering wheel.

Inside, the Turbonite cis combined with carbon elements for a sporty look. It can be found, for example, in the central rev-counter in the instrument cluster and as the colour of the controls in the centre console.

Powering the third-generation Porsche Panamera and the Panamera 4 is a 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 engine that produces 353 hp (metric) and 500 Nm, 23 hp (metric) and 50 Nm more compared to its predecessor.

With power sent to the rear wheels only on the standard Panamera, the 0 to 100 km/h sprint can be done in 5.1 seconds, onwards to a top speed of 272 km/h. The Panamera 4, on the other hand, can do the century sprint faster at 4.8 seconds, and achieve a top speed of 270 km/h, thanks to its all-wheel-drive system.

The top-spec Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid is powered by the brand’s plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system which features a 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 engine, and a new electric motor which can produce 190 hp (metric) by itself. System output is rated at 680 hp and 930 Nm, thanks to the PDK dual-clutch transmission (DCT), sending power to all four wheels.

The century sprint can be done in 3.2 seconds, while the top speed is rated at 315 km/h. The third-generation Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid also features a 25.9 kWh battery pack, providing an electric range of up to 93 km (WLTP). Charging can be done at a rate of up to 11 kW AC, which can juice up the battery to full in 2 hours and 39 minutes.

Also available as an option with the third generation Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid is the new Porsche Active Ride suspension system that comes with dual-chamber two-valve air suspension. It is said to offer an even wider range of comfort and sportiness.

As a result, the Panamera can stay flat at all times, even during dynamic braking, steering and acceleration manoeuvres. For even better handling, customers can also opt for the optional all-wheel steering.

Inside, the third-generation Porsche Panamera features a total of three screens, just like the brand’s Taycan and Cayenne. This includes the curved 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, as well as an optional 10.9-inch passenger touchscreen that displays performance data on request.

Also seen in the Porsche Taycan and Cayenne is a little toggle switch-like Gear selector lever that has been repositioned behind the steering wheel. The Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system continues to support both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Safety-wise, the third-generation Porsche Panamera is equipped with safety features such as active speed assistant, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, active lane guidance and junction assist, swerve assistant, and Remote ParkAssist.
