2024 Volkswagen Touareg R-Line teased for Malaysia – ROI now open

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) today teased the newly updated third-generation Volkswagen Touareg on its social media pages, confirming the imminent arrival of the large SUV here on our shores. The launch will also mark the debut of the third-generation Volkswagen Touareg here in Malaysia, as the model curiously never made it into Malaysia since it first debuted globally back in 2018.

The hold up is presumably due to the pricing of fully imported CBU models. However, an individual familiar with the matter told AutoBuzz previously that VPCM has now committed to locally assemble every model it sells – which means the 2024 Volkswagen Touareg will likely be introduced in Malaysia as a CKD model. Indeed, the model has already been sighted in Malaysia with the same trade plate previously seen on a pre-production CKD Golf GTI.

Based on information found on the registration of interest (ROI) page on VPCM’s website (linked here), the 2024 Volkswagen Touareg facelift will be offered here in Malaysia in the sportier R-Line guise, powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged TSI V6 engine capable of making 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque.

Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission and 4Motion permanent all-wheel drive system. Complementing its powertrain is the automatic self-levelling air suspension that adjusts for and maintains consistent height, promising “optimal comfort on any road”.

The third-generation Volkswagen Touareg was updated in May last year with a revamped front fascia featuring a reshaped grille and new LED headlights, alongside a new full-width tail lamp with illuminated VW badge at the rear. Here in Malaysia, the former will feature the IQ Light HD matrix headlamps.

Inside, the facelifted model now gets an updated infotainment system as part of the Innovision Cockpit design, which will be paired to a 730W Dynaudio Consequence sound system here in Malaysia. The IQ.Drive advanced driver assistance kit will also come as standard in the Malaysian-spec car, including the Night Vision functionality.
