BMW i EV Charging Station at Island 88 Penang now open, up to 60kW, RM1.20 per minute



The new BMW i EV Charging Station at the Island 88 shopping centre in Penang has been officially launched. Opened in conjunction with Tian Siang Premium Auto, the charging station sports one 60 kW DC charger, along with three 7.4 kW AC chargers, and is located specifically on the sub-basement floor of Island 88.

Operated by charging solutions provider EV Connection (EVC), the charging rate for the 60 kW DC charging is calculated at RM6 per hour using the Type 2 Connector, while using the CCS2 connector will cost you RM1.20 per minute. The charging rate for the 7.4 kW DC charger on the other hand is calculated at RM4 per hour.

Users can also locate or find out details regarding the BMW i EV Charging Station at Island 88 via EVC’s JomCharge app. However, it is to be noted that the charging station is still listed by the shopping centre’s previous name – Island Plaza – in the JomCharge app.

Commenting on the opening of the new BMW i EV Charging Station at Island 88, Pulau Tikus ADUN, YB Joshua Woo Sze Zeng said, “Installing EV charging station at Island 88 is timely as there are more electric cars in Penang now. In fact, more charging stations with faster charging duration have to be set up statewide.”

Island 88 Managing Director, Mr Philip Law said, “We are thrilled to provide our environmentally conscious customers with this exciting new amenity. By installing EV charging stations, we are not only supporting the growing adoption of electric vehicles, but also demonstrating our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint and creating a more sustainable future for our community.”

“Aside from this, we are going toward environmentally friendly buildings, towards green building index, in pipe line installation solar panel project and more go green efforts in 2024”, he added.
