Indonesia’s CKD MG4 EV launched, approx. RM129k – 350km range, 6.6kW AC charging

MG Motors Indonesia has launched the locally assembled MG4 EV. Launched in its range-topping form only for now, Indonesia’s locally assembled MG4 EV costs IDR433,000,000 (approx. RM129,195). It is about IDR200,000,000 cheaper than the fully-imported version. Together with the MG4 EV, MG Motors Indonesia also launched its locally assembled MG ZS EV which cost IDR453,000,000 (approx. RM135,163).

Made in Cikarang, the MG4 EV is an all-electric hatchback that is about the size of the Nissan Leaf. It measures 4,287 mm long, 1,836 mm wide, and 1,516 mm tall. Its wheelbase measures 2,705 mm long. MG Motors Indonesia says that it will later introduce a more entry-level version of the CKD MG4 EV to the Indonesian market.

As for its performance figures, the MG4 EV outputs 170 hp (metric) and 250 Nm from a single electric motor that drives the rear wheels. The MG4 does the century sprint in 7.7 seconds and eventually reaches a top speed of 160 km/h.

It houses a 51-kWh capacity battery that provides up to 425 km of range on the NEDC test cycle or 350 km on the WLTP test cycle. In terms of charging, the MG4 EV can only handle 6.6 kW single-phase AC charging and 117 kW DC charging. According to MG Motors Indonesia, the 117-kW DC charging can bring the state of charge (SoC) from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes.

The MG4 EV and MG ZS EV assembled at the Cikarang plant

MG Motor Indonesia Director of Marketing & PR, Arief Syarifudin said, “Our commitment is not only to making high-quality cars, but also to creating a sustainable mobility future. The New MG ZS EV is not only superior in design and technology, but is also clear evidence of our step forward in supporting environmentally friendly initiatives.”

“Local production of the New MG ZS EV and MG 4 EV is a reflection of our dedication in making a positive contribution to the Indonesian automotive industry and the local economy. “We are excited to soon announce competitive pricing for these two revolutionary models.”

Closer to home, the MG4 EV has been spotted on our roads with little to no camouflage. A few years ago the MG ZS EV has been sighted on our roads. No development has since then.
