BMW iX2 appears on BMW Malaysia’s website – launching soon?

A quick look at BMW Malaysia’s website suggests that the BMW iX2 may soon make its way to our shores. Currently only a blacked-out silhouette on the website, the iX2 is essentially a coupe version of the iX1 and it was unveiled to the world back in October 2023.

No bookings or registration of interest links are available on BMW Malaysia’s website just yet, but clicking the blacked-out silhouette of the iX2 leads you to a simple summary [page of the iX2. Among the information shared for the time being include its electric range which could reach up to 449 km on a single charge.

Upon its unveiling, the BMW iX2 was introduced alongside its internal combustion engine (ICE) X2 counterparts. There is only one variant of the BMW iX2 and it is the BMW iX2 xDrive30. The ICE X2, on the other hand, is available in the sDrive20i, sDrive18d, and M35i xDrive guises.

The iX2 looks very similar to the iX1 albeit with slightly more aggressive styling and the obvious sloping roof. Its taillight design is perhaps the most divisive element of it all, exploring a new styling direction for the Munich carmaker.

As for the performance figures of the iX2 xDrive30, it is driven by a dual-motor AWD setup that churns out 313 hp (metric) and 494 Nm. Paired with a single-speed transmission, the system is capable of a 5.6-second 0-100 km/h acceleration time and a 180 km/h electronically limited top speed.

A 64.7-kWh battery in the iX2 xDrive30 allows for a maximum WLTP range of 449 km on a single charge. In other markets, the iX2 is equipped with 11kW AC charging as standard but can be upgraded to a 22 kW system. 11kW charging allows for a 6.5-hour charging time (0-100%) and 22 kW is twice as fast. DC charging can be done at a maximum rate of 130 kW and this results in a 29-minute charging time from 10% to 80%.

BMW’s current EV lineup in Malaysia consists of the iX1, iX3, i5, i7, and iX. They may soon be joined by the iX2.
