Jaecoo to be marketed separately from Chery – Brand’s J7 SUV to launch in Malaysia in 2024

Earlier this month, it was announced that Chery’s sub-brand Jaecoo – which has been established to make fashionable SUVs for the younger generation – has now arrived on Malaysia shores. Despite its relations to Chery, the company says that Jaecoo will be marketed as an entirely separate brand.

The Jaecoo J7 AWD will be marking the brand’s official debut here sometime next year (2024), and will be rivalling against the likes of the Honda CR-V and the Mazda CX-5. As of early December, two units of the J7 have arrived in the country for testing purposes, ahead of its official launch.

The company says that it intends to market the Jaecoo J7 as a “premium urban off-road SUV”, which is said to “perfectly embody the brand’s ‘From Classic, Beyond Classic’ brand philosophy”, supposedly by “blending traditional automotive excellence with contemporary innovation”, Chery Malaysia says in a press release.

On the outside, the Jaecoo J7 is designed to be an SUV that not only looks tough, but is also off-road capable. It sports a set of LED headlights, welcome lights, electrically retractable door handles, and a tail light design that sort of reminds us of the Ford Everest.

The Jaecoo J7 AWD is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). outputs are rated at 197 hp and 290 Nm, with drive being sent to all four wheels via the company’s All Road Drive Intelligent System (ADRIS).

Inside, the Jaecoo J7 is fitted with equipment such as a six-way electric adjustable driver seat with memory, ventilation, and heating functions, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.8-inch head unit that comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, and a head-up display (HUD). Also included are a large panoramic sunroof, a centre armrest box with a chiller, and a heated steering wheel.

Safety-wise, the Jaecoo J7 AWD is equipped with advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Integrated Cruise Assistance (ICA), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Speed Assistance, Intelligent Active Speed Limiting.

Besides the usual features, Jaecoo will also be equipping its cars with Qualcomm’s 7 nm 8155 chip. The chip is said to provide remarkable computing power and responsiveness, including a two-second boot-up time and the ability to process over 20 commands in 30 seconds.
