The Perlis state has just received its very first public DC fast charging station. Located at Starbucks Kangar Jaya, the charging station is operated by Yinson GreenTech’s (YGT) ChargEV, and features two CCS2 plugs capable of providing a maximum DC charging rate of 60 kW. Charging rates are set at RM1.20 per kWh.

The new charger at Starbucks Kangar Jaya is reportedly already functional, however it’s still flagged as “coming soon” on the ChargEV app, which could indicate that it’s still undergoing some testing before it’s officially launched to the public.

The Starbucks Kangar Jaya charging station is located at 1A, Jalan Kangar Jaya 14, Kangar Jaya, 01000 Kangar, Perlis, which is just about 40 km away from the Malaysian-Thai border. This will serve as a huge convenience for Malaysian travellers to top up their EVs before making their way into Thailand, as well as Thai travellers coming into Malaysia.

Prior to the existence of the new ChargEV Starbucks Kangar Jaya DC charging station, EV owners travelling up north had to charge their cars using DC fast chargers located in Alor Setar and Sungai Petani, which are both in Kedah. There will also be a new DC fast charger coming up at Starbucks Changlun, which is also situated in Kedah.
