Toyota has yet to officially launch the Toyota Crown sedan FCEV and it is quite an anticipated version of the Toyota Crown since it will be the only Crown body style to get a hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV) powertrain. As we’re at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, we have the chance to get up close and personal with the Toyota Crown sedan FCEV.
The company had earlier launched the Crown Sport (SUV) and Crown Crossover (lifted sedan). In total, there will be 4 body styles for the Crown brand – Sport, Sedan, Estate, and Crossover. The Toyota Crown Sedan will be launched sometime in November and there will be two powertrain options – FCEV and HEV. Both of them will be rear-wheel drive. The full technical details of the Crown Sedan have yet to be revealed as it is still a prototype.

What Toyota has shared publicly is the dimensions of the Toyota Crown. It measures 5,030 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,470 mm tall. Its wheelbase measures 3,000 mm long. It is a bigger car than the Toyota Camry and has a much more imposing presence.
One might say that the sedan is perhaps the best-looking body style for this generation of the Toyota Crown. The grille design is the most elegant of the lot and it matches perfectly with the wheel design as well. Speaking of the wheels, the displayed version of the Crown sedan sits on a set of 20-inch wheels.
Compared to the Crown Sport SUV, the headlights of the Crown sedan get a continuous LED light strip and a slimmer upper part of the headlight cluster. The sedan also sports a simpler-looking front bumper.

The side profile of the Crown Sedan is effortlessly elegant thanks to the sloping roofline and clean lines. No fancy door handle design here and on the left rear panel is the hydrogen fuel filler cap of the Crown Sedan FCEV.
Despite the sportback-like roofline, the Toyota Crown Sedan has a sedan boot as it should. It does however include a small portion of the rear glass window. Following in the theme of the front end, the Crown Sedan’s rear end also gets a continuous light design. There’s small trunk spoiler that is integrated into the trunk lid itself.

Inside, the Crown sedan sports a conventional cabin design with conventional-looking everything. So it is a tried and tested formula that should make you easily comfortable inside it. It does get wooden trims that match well with the upholstery colour. There are not too many screens in here – just one for the head unit, one for the rearview camera screen, and another one for the digital instrument cluster. The steering wheel has a good girth, making it decently ergonomic.
It sure would be nice to have the Toyota Crown sedan as an option in the Malaysian market. We’re still waiting on its official launch to get the nitty-gritty details on its specifications.
