Toyota is showcasing a handful of its concept cars at Japan Mobility Show 2023, and one of its exhibits is the Toyota Land Cruiser Se. It is a concept of the Land Cruiser that pretty much challenges what a Land Cruiser is – it is built on a monocoque chassis and the drivetrain is fully electric.
What’s most striking about the concept is its looks – it is perhaps the sleekest-looking Land Cruiser to date. Its headlights are super sleek and so are the taillights. The roofline is also a lot sportier, and overall, the Se borderline looks like an urban SUV. And that is perhaps where one sub-brand of the Land Cruiser is heading into that Toyota says “further broadens the Land Cruiser brand’s appeal with a three-row SUV that caters to the world’s diverse needs”.

The Land Cruiser Se is perhaps not the be-all end-all direction of the Land Cruiser name as Toyota suggests the diversification of it. The Land Cruiser Se’s urban appeal is even further emphasized by the company as it states that the “BEV quietness helps create a comfortable cabin space when driving in urban areas and other on-road situations”.
Being a concept car, it sports side view cameras, flush front door handles, hidden rear door handles, and some complex panel designs. Other exterior highlights on the Land Cruiser SE include the continuous LED taillights design, the floating roof design, as well as gloss black claddings all around. Keeping the Land Cruiser Se recognizable as a Toyota model are the “TOYOTA” letterings on the front and back of the car.

The monocoque chassis construction will limit the concept’s off-road capabilities, but it is perhaps only one sub-part of the Land Cruiser brand name that caters to urbanite customers. The monocoque chassis does have its own advantages such as “highly responsive handling and confidence in tackling rough terrain”.
No information is revealed on the EV numbers of the Land Cruiser Se but we do see a charging port on the rear left corner of the car. What Toyota has shared about the Land Cruiser Se is its dimensions. It measures 5,150 mm long, 1,990 mm wide, and 1,705 mm tall. Its wheelbase measures 3,050 mm long and the car seats 7 people. The Land Cruiser’s Se’s looks do suggest it rivaling the likes of a Range Rover.
