Goodbye Proton Exora – production ends after 14 years, 197k units

After 14 long years, the Proton Exora finally bids farewell, with its end of production after a total of 196,583 units produced. The news comes about after images of a bare Exora chassis at the company’s factory appeared online- with the car being scribbled with the words “14 years, Last MPV Exora, #196583, 18/10/23, TQ PROTON”.

The Proton Exora was Proton’s first 7-seater MPV and also its first turbocharged car. Ahead of the end of production of the Exora, the CamPro CFE Engine which powered it bid slightly earlier. With no more 7-seater MPV offerings in Proton’s line-up, the Exora is spiritually succeeded by the Proton X90 which is the company’s 7-seater SUV (also available as a 6-seater).

At the moment of writing, the Proton Exora is still officially listed on the Proton website. This means that you still have a chance to grab the last few units of the Exora in this later part of the year. The Exora is one of the most affordable choices out there if you’re looking for a 7-seater. It has also been the best-selling car in its segment for quite some time although the monthly numbers have mainly been floating in the 400-500 units.

These are two variant offerings of the Proton Exora – namely the 1.6T Executive CVT and the 1.6T Premium CVT. The former will cost you RM62,800 while the latter will cost you RM69,800. Both are powered by the same 1.6-litre CamPro CFE engine which makes 140 hp (metric) and 205 Nm. Paired with the CFE engine is a CVT.

Approaching its end of production, the Proton Exora was given a final facelift in August 2022. The facelift introduced an RM3,000 price jump but also added new features to the car. This included the new Proton emblem, LED DRLs (Premium variant), full leatherette seats (Premium variant), and ESC as standard.
