Pos Malaysia last-mile fleet to go full EV by 2030, gets 143 EV vans from Yinson GreenTech

Energy solutions provider, Yinson GreenTech (YGT), has announced that it will be providing 143 commercial electric vans, or e-vans as the company calls them, to Pos Malaysia, which will replace a number of Pos Malaysia’s current petrol-powered vans on the road. This initiative is in line with the postal company’s goal to become net zero by 2030, which also makes it the first logistics company in Malaysia to have such a commitment.

Believed to be the first all-in-one leasing solution to be offered in the country, YGT will be supplying CAM EC35 e-vans integrated with its smart EV telematics software to Pos Malaysia via its electric vehicle (EV) leasing business, drivEV. The smart EV telematics software also uses cloud-based technology to provide real-time data and analytics management.

This includes features such as remote monitoring and optimising of charging levels, battery utilisation, and the driving efficiency of each e-van. As a result, Pos Malaysia will not only be able to efficiently manage its e-vans but can also make sure that its drivers will deliver its customers’ parcels in a safe and responsible manner. As an example, if a driver happens to be overspeeding, driving recklessly, or taking corners too aggressively, the postal company will be the first to know and can remind the driver to act more responsibly.

YGT will also equip Pos Malaysia depots across the country with fleet charging solutions and oversee the technical support and maintenance services for the leased fleet and EV chargers. According to Pos Malaysia, switching to the all-electric e-vans is not only more environmentally friendly but also lowers the fleet’s operation costs by up to 50% as compared to operating petrol-powered vans.

Aside from the CAM EC35 e-vans, YGT has also provided Pos Malaysia with one unit each of the Maxus eDeliver 3 and Foton iBlue EV all-electric vans for proof-of-concept (POC) purposes. These e-vans will be evaluated by Pos Malaysia during the 3-month trial period as part of its plan to electrify its last-mile internal combustion engine (ICE) powered vehicles by 2030. On top of the 143 e-vans, Pos Malaysia also aims to add 200 all-electric two-wheel vehicles to its fleet by the end of this year.

YGT Business Development Senior Vice President, Mr Srinivas Tati said, “YGT is passionate about helping commercial and industrial customers to achieve their net zero ambitions. In line with this, we are honoured to be working with Pos Malaysia, contributing to their sustainability goal of halving Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. Starting first with the rollout of chargEV charging stations at Pos Malaysia outlets earlier this year, we are now supporting the rapid electrification of their four-wheeler fleet. We hope that this will pave the way for more corporates to realise their own decarbonisation commitments.”

Pos Malaysia Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Charles Brewer said, “We are thrilled to be working with YGT to green our fleet operations, reinforcing our dedication to providing the very best service and delivering on our sustainability goals. This initiative is one of six sustainability initiatives and underpins our commitment to be net-zero by 2050 and reflects our purpose statement of being passionate about building trust to connect lives and businesses for a better tomorrow. We aim to fully transition our last-mile vehicles from ICE to electric by 2030.”

“Our unwavering commitment to reducing emissions, enhancing energy efficiency, and embracing cleaner technologies positions us as the only logistics provider in Malaysia to commit to a net-zero target. We eagerly invite others to join us on this journey towards a cleaner and greener future – together, we can make a difference!”, added Mr Brewer.
