Brand-new Proton X70 catches fire at Puspakom centre, cause yet to be identified

A video of a brand new Proton X70 catching fire in Puspakom Alor Gajah has recently been circulating on social media. Smoke can be seen coming out from the SUV’s engine bay, with the fire being put out using a fire extinguisher.

It is to be noted that the source of the fire has yet to be identified at this point in time. However, this isn’t the first time a Proton vehicle has been seen catching fire in recent times.

A video of a Proton X90 catching fire has also gone viral online less than two months ago. However, Proton took swift action towards the incident and immediately took the car into its possession to investigate the source of the fire.

Unlike many netizens thought, the Proton X90’s fire was not caused by its 48V mild hybrid battery. Instead, the issue has been found to be due to the grounding connection to the body of the X90.

Proton has also been contacting all owners of the Proton X90 individually to schedule an inspection for their vehicles through its national 3S and 4S dealership network. The service centres will also take remedial actions to eliminate any thermal risks if needed.

As mentioned above, the cause of the Proton X70’s fire has yet to be identified just yet. Proton has not issued a statement regarding the matter thus far.
