Proton donates 7 engines to Perak tertiary education institutions, nurtures future automotive talents

Proton handed over seven units of its locally assembled 1.5-litre TGDi engines to educational institutions in Perak to support the state’s technical programmes. Recipients of the engines include Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah, Behrang, Kolej Vokasional Slim River, Giat Mara Tanjong Malim, and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Tanjong Malim.

Proton will provide students of the above-mentioned educational institutions with first-hand training and will help build their knowledge in engine servicing and development. This will contribute to helping align the students’ skills with industry demands as they enter the industry in the future.

Proton Chief Executive Officer, Dr Li Chunrong said, “Proton has been producing vehicles in Tanjung Malim for 20 years and we are always looking for opportunities to support local educational institutions to further develop their automotive knowledge and skills. We hope the engines presented today will help advance the training programmes at the institutions and help train future talents for Malaysia’s automotive industry.”

The Geely-sourced award-winning 1.5-litre TGDi engines are assembled at Proton’s Tanjong Malim plant and were presented to the educational institutions by Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, YB Chang Lih Kang. The ceremony was held during Proton’s Growing Together Fun Ride cycling event.

Aside from the engine handover ceremony, Proton has also presented three brothers from SMK Proton City with a contribution of RM3,000. The cash contribution is a reward for the brothers’ effort in winning a gold model for the World Young Inventions Exhibition (WYIE) and were named Best Young Inventors for the Malaysian Young Inventions Exhibition (MYIE).

“Proton’s cash contribution to the three brothers is a reward for their efforts and recognition that talented young minds can be found right here in Tanjong Malim. Just like their parents, we are also proud of their achievement and hope this is a first step to doing more great things in the future”, added Dr Li Chunrong.
