Video: 2023 Kia Niro EV, RM257k electric SUV with 460km range – 5 Things

The 2023 Kia Niro EV has just been launched in Malaysia. Offered in a single variant only, the 2023 Kia Niro EV is fully-imported (CBU) from South Korea and is priced at RM256,668 (OTR, without insurance).

Size-wise, the Niro EV is about the same as the Toyota Corolla Cross and is underpinned by a wheelbase just slightly longer than the usual C-segment SUV. On the outside, the Korean EV SUV features the brand’s signature ‘tiger nose’ at the front, together with Dual LED projector headlights.

There are also unique cladding designs at the sides that don’t quite cover the entire car, giving it a more ‘rugged’ look. The Niro EV also comes with a front sunroof, heated side view mirrors, a smart-powered tailgate, as well as a set of 17-inch alloy wheels.

Powering the 2023 Kia Niro EV is a single motor setup that powers the front wheels only. Paired with a 1-speed e-shift transmission, and powered by a 64.8 kWh battery, the 2023 Kia Niro EV produces a total of 201 hp and 255 Nm.

When the Niro EV runs out of juice, 80 kW of DC charging can juice it up from 10 to 80% in 49 minutes. Besides DC chargers, the Niro EV can also take 11 kW of AC charging, which can boost its charge from 10 to 100% in 6 hours and 20 minutes.

Moving inside, the Kia Niro EV features an interior that looks similar to its EV sibling – the EV6. Standard interior equipment available here includes a 10.25-inch head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android connectivity, an 8-speaker sound system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a multi-function steering wheel, seat heating and ventilation, a dual-zone automatic climate control, and a wireless mobile phone charger. Rear air-conditioning vents, metal foot pedals, leather upholstery, and power-adjustable first-row seats with lumbar adjustment are also equipped as standard with the 2023 Kia Niro EV in Malaysia.

In the safety department, the Korean EV SUV is well-equipped with advanced safety technologies. Among the safety features the Korean EV comes packed with include blind-spot collision-avoidance assist (BCA), rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist (RCCA), lane keeping assist (LKA), and driver attention warning (DAW). Forward collision-avoidance assist (FCA), lane following assist (LFA), as well as smart cruise control (SCC) with stop & go functionality are also available.
