2023 Toyota Innova Zenix launched in Malaysia – petrol and hybrid variants, from RM165k

UMW Toyota Motor has officially launched the Innova Zenix here in Malaysia, with two variants on offer. Pricing for the fully-imported 2023 Innova Zenix starts at RM165,000 for the petrol V variant, rising up to RM202,000 for the HEV hybrid variant.

The Zenix suffix on the all-new MPV is to distinguish it as the “flagship” model in the Innova line-up here in Malaysia, as the existing model (now reffered to as Innova CG) will still remain on sale, with no change in pricing (now only available in 2.0G and 2.0X variants).

Toyota Innova Zenix exterior

Toyota says that the Innova Zenix is designed for the millenials who have now grown up and started their own families. As such, they’ve put a significant effort on the exterior design of the new MPV, now characterised by its SUV-like proportions, and a more premium and classy appearance as opposed to its predecessor’s utilitarian look.

The Innova Zenix now occupies a larger footprint too, now measuring 20 mm longer (with a 100 mm longer wheelbase), and 15 mm wider than before. In terms of exterior equipment, the all-new 2023 Innova Zenix in Malaysia comes as standard with:

  • LED headlights with automatic high beam, manual headlamp levelling
  • LED daytime-running lights, front fog lights
  • Combination tail lights
  • 18-inch alloy wheels (225/50 R18)
  • Chrome moulding
  • Automatic folding wing mirrors with welcome lamp

Toyota Innova Zenix performance

The most significant change for the all-new Innova Zenix is actually found underneath its sheet metal, as it’s now built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) with a monocoque structure, instead of the ladder frame chassis as before. This should translate to better ride quality, comfort, and handling capabilities.

Thanks to the switch to TNGA, the engine is also now mounted transversely, sending drive to the front wheels, rather than rear-wheel drive. Compared to the older Innova CG, the new Innova Zenix is also lighter by up to 170 kg, depending on variant.

The 2023 Toyota Innova Zenix is offered in Malaysia with two powertrain variants. Both of them are based on a new 2.0-litre Dynamic Force naturally-aspirated inline-four engine, but the HEV hybrid variant further pairs it with an electric motor to offer improved fuel efficiency and performance.

Toyota Innova Zenix interior

Sitting inside, the Zenix’s premium aspirations are immediately obvious, especially with the new overall dashboard design, and the use of high-quality materials throughout the cabin. Both variants share much of their equipment list, but the range-topping HEV variant swaps the bench seats in the second row for a pair of “captain seats” with manual adjustments and a folding centre table.

Otherwise, their equipment lists include:

  • 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display
  • Analogue instrument cluster with seven-inch colour TFT multi-info display
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto connectivity
  • Automatic climate control with rear control panel (blower adjustment)
  • Electric parking brake
  • Black leatherette upholstery
  • Tilt and telescopic adjustable leather steering wheel
  • Powered driver seat
  • Powered tailgate
  • USB-A and USB-C charging ports
  • Panoramic sunroof with powered sun shades (2.0 HEV only)

Toyota Innova Zenix safety – Toyota Safety Sense 3.0
