UMW Toyota Motor sold 8,004 cars in May 2023, 18% higher than April

In May 2023, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) recorded a total of 8,004 cars sold, which is 18% higher than what the company recorded in April 2023. Of the 8,004 cars sold, 7,875 units were Toyota models, and 129 units were Lexus models.

As for the cumulative year-to-date sales (January to May 2023), UMWT has recorded a total of 39,990 units. This is a whole 8% growth compared to the year-to-date sales of 26,972 units, registered as of May 2022.

Throughout the month of May, UMWT has taken an approach to fulfilling its responsibility to provide low-carbon transport solutions which cater to the diverse needs of Malaysians. The company brought in sample units of the all-electric Toyota bZ4X to conduct market research and technical evaluations on local road conditions.

This move aligns with Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by offering a range of options. These options include battery electric vehicles (BEVs), fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs).

UMW Toyota Motor President, Datuk Ravindran K. said, “Toyota has a multipathway strategy towards carbon neutrality and this is evident through these green powertrains, each developed to best meet the unique needs of customers in different parts of the world.”

He added, “For Malaysia, we believe HEVs are the most suitable for Malaysians, considering the fuel source of our electricity generation and availability of charging infrastructure outside city centres in the West coast of Peninsular Malaysia. We will add more HEV models in 2023.”

Besides, UMWT also held a grand opening of its first eco-friendly Lexus showroom in Klang. This showroom exemplifies the luxury brand’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and making significant strides towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

The month of May also saw the launch of the fifth-generation Lexus RX. Built on the GA-K version of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), the latest RX is 90 kg lighter than its predecessor, which enables it to offer improved performance and fuel efficiency. The Lexus RX in the RX350 Luxury variant is offered at RM468,888 (OTR without insurance), together with a comprehensive five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

UMWT continues with its commitment to providing exceptional services through Toyota Extra Mile in its June promotion. The company is offering promotions worth up to RM8,000, with the Toyota Corolla offered at a monthly instalment starting from RM1,108, while the all-new Vios is offered at a monthly instalment starting from RM688.
