The fully-electric 2023 Jaguar I-Pace has finally made its official debut here in Malaysia, five years after its global debut. Despite the now five-year-old design, the Jaguar I-Pace is still one of the most unique-looking crossovers on the road today. This is largely down to its proportions, afforded by its full EV platform that pushes its wheels far into the four corners of the car, resulting in short overhangs both front and back.

Being Jaguar’s first-ever dedicated EV, the overall silhouette of the I-Pace is primarily dictated by aerodynamics, where the sloped roofline, flat rear, and retracting door handles all help contribute to its slippery – if not unusual – shape.

Funky shape aside, the I-Pace still wears many of Jaguar’s latest design touches with charisma, including the slim-line matrix LED headlights with the twin J-blade daytime-running light graphics, slim rear lighting, and the signature Jaguar grille.

Due to the reduced cooling requirement on its EV powertrain, the “grille” here actually functions as an aerodynamic device rather than an air inlet, passing air from the front grille through the bonnet and over the top of the top of the car to further maximise its efficiency.

Both variants of the 2023 Jaguar I-Pace here in Malaysia ride on the 20-inch ‘Style 5068’ alloys, although the range-topping HSE variant get a two-tone diamond-turned finish, while the Black LE gets a fully blacked-out colourway.

The interior is where the Jaguar I-Pace starts to show its age, thanks to its busy dashboard layout that can only be described as “old-school” by today’s standards. With that being said, the physical controls do at least make it a lot more convenient to operate – especially on the most commonly-used items like climate and volume control.

This being a Jaguar, there’s no discount on luxuries here, too. Leather upholstery is standard, and the HSE even gets upgraded Windsor leather to wrap its variant-exclusive Performance seats. Other interior highlights include the Meridian 3D surround sound system (HSE exclusive), glass roof, and the unique split-screen Pivi Pro infotainment system consisting of a 10-inch touchscreen on top, and a 5.5-inch touchscreen below for your climate control system.

The 2023 Jaguar I-Pace is powered by a twin-motor, all-time all-wheel drive for a combined output of 400 hp (294 kW) and 696 Nm of torque. That translates to a century sprint time of just 4.8 seconds, onward to a top speed of 200 km/h.

Aside from raw performance, the Jaguar I-Pace also boasts a “sportscar-like” handling characteristic, thanks to its 50:50 weight distribution, lower centre of gravity, and increased torsional rigidity.

If you want a better balance between sporty handling and comfort, though, the range-topping HSE variant swaps the coil springs for a set of adjustable air suspensions that also automatically lowers when you shut off the car for easier ingress and egress.

The Jaguar I-Pace’s twin motors are supplied by a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, giving the I-PACE an electric driving range of 470 km (WLTP cycle). To charge, an 11 kW on-board AC charger tops it up from 0-80% in roughly 8.6 hours. Using a 100 kW DC fast charger meanwhile does the same in under 40 minutes.

As mentioned above, pricing for the 2023 Jaguar I-Pace in Malaysia starts from RM460,800 for the Black LE, going up to RM498,800 for the HSE. The fully-electric crossover is backed by a five-year/150,000 km warranty, a separate eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty, and five years or 102,000 km of free scheduled maintenance.
