Mitsubishi Xpander Hybrid due in 2024, new Triton and B-segment hybrid SUV coming soon

The Mitsubishi Xpander is a 7-seater MPV that has been successful in markets such as Thailand, Indonesia, as well as Malaysia. However, it seems like the Japanese carmaker isn’t going to just stop at that, as the hybrid variant of the Xpander has just been teased to be launched in 2024. It is to note that no details regarding the hybrid MPV have been confirmed as of yet.

Based on Mitsubishi’s financial results presentation slides, the Xpander hybrid’s exterior looks to be featuring an identical design to the one on the existing facelifted petrol model. Details such as the LED headlights should remain, but the grille design might be tweaked a little.

The car might also feature one or two ‘HEV’ or ‘Hybrid’ emblems on the outside as well. As for its interior, it is expected that the Xpander hybrid will feature a similar design to the petrol model, with an energy-flow indicator displayed on the central touchscreen display as the exception.

Powering the hybrid MPV could be the same 1.5-litre 4A91 MIVEC 4-cylinder, but that is just a possibility for now. Of course, an electric motor will come into play to complete the hybrid powertrain. However, details are scarce for the time being. The transmission could also be one that is specially made for a hybrid powertrain.

This combo should be able to provide better fuel economy and reduce emissions produced by the car. And just like the petrol variant Xpander, when made into reality, the Xpander hybrid is expected to be launched in Indonesia and Thailand first, with Malaysia receiving the hybrid MPV later.

Other than the Xpander hybrid, Mitsubishi has also teased and is planning to launch other models within its Financial Year 2023 (April 2023 – March 2024) as well. Based on the timeline provided by the company, these models include the next-generation Triton pickup truck, Colt, ASX, Delica Mini and a compact SUV based on the XFC Concept, which are all expected to be launched by this year.

A 2-row hybrid SUV is also planned to be made into reality by late 2024. As for 2025, a 3-row petrol-powered SUV and a PPV (Pickup-based Passenger Vehicle) seem to be in Mitsubishi’s plan as well.
