Perodua sold 78,564 cars in Q1 2023, up 27.5% from last year

For the first quarter (Q1) of 2023, Perodua recorded a total sales of 78,564 cars, which is 27.5% more than the same period in 2022 (61,624 cars). As for the month of March itself, Perodua sold 32,179 cars, showing a 20.2% jump from the 26,759-unit figure from the same month last year. Compared to February 2023, the monthly sales in March was up by 29%.

As for production, Perodua managed to produce a total of 84,800 cars in Q1 2023, which is a 33.9% increase from the same period in 2022. In March alone, 33,666 cars were produced. Perodua says that the production was boosted in an effort to fulfil the PENJANA orders before the deadline.

Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said, “These achievements can be attributed to several factors, such as our efforts to fulfil the PENJANA orders before its deadline on 31 March 2023, production improvements throughout the supplier ecosystem and better coordination within our sales network.”

“Despite these achievements, there are still a small number of PENJANA orders that we were unable to fulfil, to these customers, we will honour the sales exempt amount guaranteed under the initiative and we apologise for the long wait,” he adds.

Moving forward, Dato’ Sri Zainal said that Perodua is expected to further build on these achievements as the number of bookings for its models continues to be healthy. He said that the sustained production growth managed to reduce some of the waiting periods in certain models.

The Perodua President and CEO said, “In fact, some of our models, the waiting period has been reduced significantly, only particular models such as the Bezza, Axia and Alza have a slightly longer waiting period based on their respective variants and colour.”

In terms of production, Perodua says that the global price of raw materials has decreased recently, easing cost pressures for suppliers, Perodua, and most automotive players. Perodua is targeting a total sales of 314,000 cars and a total production of 330,000 cars this year. If the Q1 2023 pace is maintained, Perodua is on track to achieving its targets.
