Hyundai Sonata facelift unveiled – Staria lights, BMW-like curved display

No longer available on Hyundai Malaysia’s official website, the Hyundai Sonata has been given a facelift to fit in with the brand’s new model lineup. Featuring a “seamless horizon lamp” in front and “H-Lights” at the back, the Hyundai Sonata facelift is set to make its global debut at the Seoul Mobility Show happening from March 30 to April 9, 2023.

Hyundai has announced that the Sonata will be available in Standard and N Line Variants upon its launch at the end of the month. The exterior has been designed “with an N Line base”, featuring a long hood, low front-end, and a fastback roofline.

Just like the Staria, Stargazer, Grandeur, and upcoming all-new Hyundai Kona, the Hyundai Sonata facelift features a Seamless Horizon Lamp upfront, together with hidden headlamps, a wide grille, and air intake for a more dynamic and aggressive appearance. Already low-slung, the continuous light strip makes the Sonata look even wider than it already is.

The rear end of the Hyundai Sonata has also been refreshed, now with “H-Lights” that give the saloon a more futuristic look. As standard, the rear end of the Sonata features a swooping spoiler-shaped trunk lid and muffler-shaped rear garnish. The Sporty N Line version of the Sonata adds a rear spoiler, dual-twin tip mufflers, and exclusive 19-inch wheels.

Hyundai has also shared several images of the Hyundai Sonata facelift’s interior. For the first time, a Hyundai model features a twin 12.3-inch display in its cabin, almost mimicking a BMW. One of the displays functions as the central head unit while the other functions as a driver information cluster. The Sonata also features a touch-type climate control unit.

Generally, the interior employs a “floating theme to create a futuristic mood. Like the all-new Hyundai Kona, the facelifted Hyundai Sonata also features a column-type shift-by-wire controller behind the steering wheel creating more space in the center console area. The center console is further enhanced by the palm rest which provides more comfort for the driver by extending the armrest to lean up to the palm of the hand. The large size cup holder and tray provide additional convenience.

Powertrain details of the facelifted Hyundai Sonata will be revealed during its global debut. Hyundai’s D-segment saloon will make its world premiere at the Seoul Mobility Show happening from March 30 to April 9, 2023.
