Video: 2022 Ora Good Cat is the cheapest EV in Malaysia, from 140k – 5 Things

First spotted in Malaysia in 2021, GWM Malaysia has finally launched the fully-electric 2022 Ora Good Cat in two variants. The ‘400 Pro’ costs RM139,800, and the ‘500 Ultra’ variant costs RM169,800. Fully imported from China, the Ora Good Cat is now officially Malaysia’s cheapest electric vehicle (EV).

It is hard to miss the Ora Good Cat on the road as its retro styling and unique colours stand out from the usual car. Even amongst EVs in its segment, the Ora Good Cat is certain to draw attention. Styled by ex-Porsche designer, Emanuel Derta, the Ora Good Cat sits on 18-inch wheels and gets a futuristic LED lightbar taillight that is integrated into the rear windshield.

Powering the car is a 143 hp (metric) and 210 Nm electric motor that drives the front wheels. Both the 400 Pro and 500 Ultra get the same electric motor, albeit with different battery sizes and EV ranges.

As their name suggests, the 400 Pro gets 400 km of range (NEDC) from a 47.8-kWh battery pack while the ‘500 Ultra’ gets a 500 km range (NEDC) from a 63.1-kWh battery pack. There is a more powerful Ora Good Cat GT that makes 170 hp (metric) and 250 Nm, but only the Pro and Ultra are offered for the Malaysian market.

To recharge the batteries, the 2022 Ora Good Cat can handle 6.6-kW AC charging and 60-kW DC fast charging (DCFC). With 6.6 kW AC charging, the smaller 48-kWh battery charges from 0 to 100% in 8 hours while the bigger 63-kWh battery does it in 10 hours. With 60-kW DCFC, the small battery charges from 0 to 80% in 46 minutes the big battery does it in 60 minutes.

Safety equipment on the range-topping 500 Ultra variant includes Lane Keep Assist, Lane Following Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Blindspot Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist.
