UMW Toyota monthly sales down 25% in July, Hilux still best-selling truck in Malaysia

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) sold 6,637 cars in July 2022, of which 6,624 were Toyota cars and 13 were from the Lexus brand. The Toyota Hilux played a major role in the month’s sales figures, with a total of 1,788 units delivered last month, retaining the Hilux’s title of the best-selling pick-up truck in Malaysia since 2005.

Naturally, UMW Toyota’s month-on-month sales have been affected by the reinstatement of the Sales & Service Tax (SST), showing a 25% drop from the 8,939 units in June. However, its year-to-date performance from January to July 2022 still saw a 48% year-on-year improvement over the same period in 2021 (35,561 units), with a total sales of 52,548 units (Toyota and Lexus) recorded thus far.

UMW Toyota Motor President, Ravindran K said, “UMW Toyota Motor is committed to ensuring prompt vehicle delivery. We are working around the clock to intensify production to ensure faster delivery to new car owners who have been patiently waiting. We thank all our customers for their patience and understanding.”

Riding on the confidence of on-time vehicle delivery, the month of August sees UMWT offering Yaris and Vios buyers benefits worth RM4,000 on top of cash rebates. The carmaker expects sales to steadily increase as Malaysians take advantage of deals and savings to upgrade to newer vehicles.

Aligning with the Toyota Global commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and in support of the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, UMWT recently held two events – a tree planting programme at the Kuala Selangor Nature Park and a Hike and Clean event at Bukit Broga, Semenyih.
