Hyundai IONIQ 5 wins big at the 2022 World Car Awards!



As you may have heard, Hyundai Sime Darby Motors had recently launched the fully electric IONIQ 5 – available in three variants – starting from RM199,888.

It was unique, to say the least, with unconventional features like 3-pin points for charging electronics, a solar roof, a movable centre console and more. As it turns out, the international community has unanimously felt that way as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 has snapped up three major titles at the World Car Awards.

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 was named the 2022 World Car Design of the Year, 2022 World Electric Vehicle of the Year, and also the most coveted 2022 World Car of the Year award.

The results were made by a panel of 102 international automotive journalists from 33 countries including one from Malaysia. The IONIQ 5 led the way ahead of over 30 vehicles en route to winning its three titles.

The rest of the category winners are as follow:

World Luxury Car – Mercedes-Benz EQS
World Performance Car – Audi e-tron GT
World Urban Car – Toyota Yaris Cross

Locally, the three variants of the IONIQ 5 consists of Lite, Plus, and Max. The Lite and Plus come with 170 hp and 350 Nm, while the Max offers 305 hp and 605 Nm! The Lite and Plus does 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, and 5.2 seconds for the Max. Top speed is limited to 185 km/h for all variants. Electric driving range is up to 430 km, in the Max variant.
