Mercedes-Benz EQS to be launched in Malaysia soon? ROI now open

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) said that it’ll be unveiling two fully-electric models in the country this year. They’ve already launched the first one last week with the EQA, but now it seems that we don’t have to wait too long for the second as the company has just teased the Mercedes-Benz EQS on its website, accompanied by a page for potential buyers to register their interest.

This seems to fall nicely in line with our previous rumour, suggesting that the all-new Mercedes-Benz EQS could be launched here in Malaysia in CKD (locally-assembled) form!

As usual, the company did not provide any form of information on the car’s local specifications. Globally, the fully-electric flagship sedan is offered in three variants, starting with the single-motor EQS 350 offering 292 hp and 565 Nm of torque, followed by the EQS 450+ with 333 hp and 568 Nm, and lastly the dual-motor EQS 580 4Matic with 523 hp and 855 Nm.

Seeing that the EQS will likely be MBM’s flagship EQ model, we’re guessing that the latter two might stand a better chance to be introduced here in Malaysia. They’re both equipped with the same 107.8 kWh battery pack, but the EQS 450+ is the range champion in the line-up, offering up to a whopping 770 km of range in a single charge based on the WLTP test cycle.

The EQS is also offered in a Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ flavour, with a peak power output of 761 hp and 1020 Nm in Race Start mode. However, we’re guessing that it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing it in Malaysia for the time being – at least not until the base car is available here first.

As it is a flagship model after all, we can expect the Mercedes-Benz EQS to come with a pretty extensive list of standard equipments here in Malaysia, including the Digital Light headlights (which debuted here with the all-new S-Class), rear entertainment screens, and powered rear seats.

Pricing, as usual, is also still up in the air. But just for comparison’s sake, the all-new Mercedes-Benz S 580 e is priced at RM 698,744 – we’re assuming that the EQS will not stray too far from that figure, too, based on its pricing of the EQA compared to the GLA 250.
