Nissan Note named Japan Car of the Year



The Nissan Note has been named Japan’s Car of the Year by a panel of 60 judges – the fifth time Nissan has won since the award was established in 1980.

Previous winners included the Nissan Leaf (2011/12), Nissan March (1992/93), Nissan Silvia (1988/89), and Nissan Pulsar (1986/87).

On a side note, the Mk8 Volkswagen Golf was named the Import Car of the Year 2021/22. Following are the Top 10 selected out of 30 finalists:

  • 1st – Nissan Note
  • 2nd – Toyota GR86 / Subaru BRX
  • 3rd – Honda Vezel (HR-V)
  • 4th – Mitsubishi Outlander
  • 5th – Volkswagen Golf
  • 6th – Toyota Mirai
  • 7th – Chevrolet Corvette
  • 8th – Mercedes-Benz C-Class
  • 9th – Toyota Land Cruiser
  • 10th- BMW 4 Series

The new Note e-Power is currently only on sale in Japan but plans to launch the e-Power variant in European and U.S. markets in the near future.

According to COTY committee, the Note was chosen for its hybrid powertrain, fuel economy, handling, competitive pricing and stylish design.

As for the other awards, the BMW 4 Series received the Design of the Year award, while the Outlander PHEV picked up the Technology of the Year award. Honda’s N-One won the K-Car award while Performance Car of the Year went to the Corvette.
